If she is that keen to go out she must be feeling a lot better :j

The harness is a good idea until you can cat proof the garden. Or maybe you can make her a temporary run of some sort until the garden is sorted?
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

Hi, still doing fine, she is so bored though,I cant wait to make my garden more secure so she cant get out,she is spending all day trying to escape through open doors, windows etc,she had always been such a pleasant cat and never bit me or my daughter, but on halloween she managed to dart out the door ,it took me around 40mins trying to catch her,a neighbour(a nice one) helped me corner her when she went under a parked car,but as I reached under the car to get hold of her she started really struggling ,for the first time ever she bit me and drew blood, she was also making that horrible scream you hear cats make when they are fighting or what ever it is they do, lol, but I think she is just so frustrated, she used to love going outside hunting, so im going to get her a harness for now,but will be looking at making a fence like one mentioned earlier in this thread,as she must be so unhappy being kept in and she thinks im just being cruel.
I may be moaning about her behaviour but im over the moon to see her looking so healthy, my vet keeps telling me not to build my hopes up,but to see her so full of life, I am sure with the right care she is not going to die,she has been of the drip now 7days,the vet at first gave her 2days to live, then after 2days she said her kidneys will gradually fail now,but she looks stronger every day,I cant beleive my luck, I was so sure we had lost her.

I know it's not what you want to hear but your vet has a point. Cat's don't show any physical signs of renal failure until 75% kidney function is lost. My wee man's last blood results weren't good, I was shocked because he is in the best form he's been in for months. It's a very deceptive disease.

Hopefully your lil dote won't have suffered any permanent damage though xxx

    How's Smudgy doing,tianna?
  • 'This man never speaks to me ,but yesterday he went out of his way to say hello to me ,all smiles and looking smug,I thought this was strange but didnt think to much about it.'

    Evil, inadequate ****wit.

How is smudgy doing now? Don't ever let her out again unless she can be contained and even then 'thing' next door might try and put something over the fence so please make sure she is supervised. He is one lucky man that he hasn't got me as a neighbour, I admire your restraint - you are right to keep your cool.

She is so lucky that she has you & your little girl - good luck to you both - you are an absolute star for what you have done.

Is no news good news?
  • Sorry to resurrect an old thread - how is Smudge? Yahoo groups are very informed, but do tend to be US there is one called fanciers health and if you get no where you can ask the vet to talk to the Prof at Nottingham who is a leading light in cats.

A water fountain is excellent to get cats drinking, Zooplus frequently do offers. If you do have to stay on KD find a local breeder that uses Hills and they may agree to getting it at a discount. (Ages since I used Hills as I use Royal Canin, can't remember what their discounts are or if they do them on specil diets, but worth a go )
  • Yeah please update us on how smudgy is doing. I hope she's ok

Just read this thread for the first time and have been in tears and everything!

How is Smudgy doing now? My own 16 yr old kitty almost died recently - she has h ad a heart murmur but there were a whole lot of associated problems. I gradually let her out in the back yard with watching her and making sure she doesn't go out. I understand how nerve wracking it is ! Now a couple of months on, she goes out most days but is happy sniffing around to see if other cats have been on her territory. The lead sounds a brilliant idea to help her frustration.

Hope Smudgy is doing ok - look forward to an update.

Zippy - I'd been wondering about Maggie! It sounds like she has most definately improved leaps and bounds after all the stress the two of you went through.

I'm interested to find out about Smudge too, so will be checking back later for hopefully some more news.

Ah Snowy! Hi! She has came on leaps and bounds, sometimes eating a kilo of chicken a week. I took loads of pics to update her thread, but then I thought people got bored listening to me prattle on about her, and it wasn't even in the pet forum! So i will update in the next day or so!

Really keen to know how Smudge is - i went through all the emotions, sat in tears at my desk - as it was so recent to me too!

    hurry back OP!
