The children's school polo shirts are an icky grey colour at the moment and I really don't want to buy new when the only problem is the shade of white.

I've tried that Vanish in a tub, soaking it in that and it didn't work, I've tried stardrops and soda crystals today and that didn't work! The only think I can think of is bleaching it but I'm not quite sure of the quantities to use.

Is bleaching the way to go?
Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!

SPC2 #571 - trying to get as much as possible
  • I have tried bleaching my work shirts, they came out a greyish yellow colour.

I don't want to try anything too expensive, and would also like to see what people recomend.

If I have stained or gone grey whites I soak them in a dilute bleach mix. I know it is bad for the fabric, but the alternative is chuck!

I use an ecover product for this. Its a powder that you add to the wash and I find works very well. The pack cost's maybe a couple of pounds and mine has lasted ages so far and still a fair bit in it.

My mother used to rub the cuffs and collars with fairy washing soap which is different to toilet soap, before putting them in the machine. ( not an automatic one mind)

Just bought some vintage, but unused cotton pillowcases off ebay. In the picture they looked lovely and white but when I got them they were very "yellowish" I have them on a hot wash at the minute, what else can I do to make them sparkling white?
