    Wash whites with whites
    Wash at 60
With Ariel bio (the green one) in powder tablets (I think powder is better than liquids).
I used to use Daz, but I think Ariel is better.

After the weekend, when my boys (4 and 6) turned their white shirts (we were at a wedding) brown and black, from digging in an unused badger set and then spilling chocolate cake and goodness only knows what down themselves, IF I manage to get them white again, I'll let you know what I did!!!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

I too have a white duvet cover that is starting to lose its freshness and find that hanging it outside in brilliant sunlight really improves the whiteness. The other thing is to vacuum it regularly when you're vacuuming the bedroom floor. If you look at the amount of dust which settles on worktops, window ledges etc, the same amount of dust is settling every day on duvet covers and if left unattended for long periods it can permanently smudge the light covered cotton covers.

  • I read somewhere on here to use bicarb when you do a white wash. My boys wear white polo shirts for school which are past their best. Put them in machine today, about 1tbsp bicarb in the powder drawer and wow!
I dried them in the sun which always help white things but am impressed with the bicarb. so whoever posted the tip many thanks

    Hi TRYINGTOSWIM,

As your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to the main thread on brightening up white clothing so that other users will find it more easily.

My favourite white bed linen started to go a bit grey so I put it in my jam pan with water and lemon juice ( I used most of a bottle of PLJ that wasn't going to get used otherwise) and brought it to the boil for a while, I didn't rinse it just waited for it to cool down enough to handle then hung it out in the sunshine. It was dazzling to look at and lovely to get into the freshly made bed that night. Smelled like fresh air and lemons and sunshine. I can't wait for Summer!

Could anyone give me any os tips on how to get clothes white again? My daughters school tops are looking really horrid now and have yellow stains in the armpits and I can't afford new ones yet.
