I have to keep my chef's whites white and it's not easy when you get stains from things like tomato that are hard to shift. I've found that biological washing powder shifts a lot more stains than non-bio. So does a 95º wash but that wouldn't be suitable for your nice linen trousers!0

Hello squirrelchops
My way of keeping whites white isn't old style I'm afraid but my garments last for years..............and they stay bright white.........which might be cheaper in the long run (because I don't have to buy new garments) than using cheaper washing detergents and seeing your whites turn grey.
I wash white garments separate from any other colours. They are washed in the washing machine on a 60C wash using Persil automatic powder and no fabric conditioner.
My white sports sock are stiff (not soft) when I first put them on (because they've never been washed with fabric conditioner) but they've lasted years and are still bright white.
From the R&D evaluation work under normal and UV lighting conditions which I used to do on washing detergents and fabric conditioners, I know that nothing beats Persil for keeping whites white.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j :cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Thanks for the replies. Is that specifically Persil powder or will the liquid tabs work ok too??
May also try the soda crystal tip as always have a bag in the cupboard for doing the sinks/drains.0 -

Unfortunately I have never used/tried the liquid tablets so I can't comment on them. I only ever buy/use Persil automatic powder to keep my whites white.;)10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j :cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. I keep a separate laundry bag for whites so never get them mixed in with coloureds by mistake. I generally wash whites on a quick and cool wash with biological but eco powder like Mr M's own lavender washing powder. I only use half of the recommended amount which seems to work better. Instead of using fabric conditioner, I use a capful of vinegar. (not the white vinegar either, but the brown vinegar at 19p per bottle)
My whites stay white. To be honest, never washing your whites with any coloureds is probably the most important thing you can do. The only things I wash at a hotter temperature are teatowels from time to time. If they are heavily stained, I soak in stain remover for a day and then use a 6o degree wash0 -

I only ever wash whites with whites, turn everythng inside out before washing, and add a small amount of soda crystals to my powder. Works like a treat, and my whites are always sparkling.
