If i'm still a pedant, I can help with trying to explain your poor use of the possesive apostraphie in your previous posts if you like?
Apostraphie? Don't you mean apostrophe? :rotfl:

I love it when an idiot makes a spelling mistake when he's trying to correct someone else's use of English. It makes him look like such a berk! ;) That wasn't just a typo either - you were way out.

By the way, I am more than happy to talk about driving. You are the one who is changing the subject.

That car's a bit old now isn't it!

Keep your speeding on the track and off the public roads before you kill children...

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Sorry Seb but this is what happens when you join the grammar police, one mistake and.....

By definition it's "hoisted by one's own petard", and thats a cracking example:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • Caught red handed i'm afraid, but let's be honest, I wasn't the one calling anyone a pedant. I have no idea why I was as I havn't mentioned any type of grammar on this thread. Pendulum just came out with it? I assume because he doesn't like the fact i'm a well qualified driver with a nice set of cars he so bitterly calls old! I tend not to mention grammar as (i'm sure you all can tell) i'm a French guy and my English is not perfect. My French is, my Italian's as good as my English and I guess technically, bar the poor spelling i'm fluent in English.

The point I was trying to make was, why call me a pedant? My understanding of the word is, as it is derived from the French word p!dant means teacher and when it was first used in Shakespear in the late 1500s was universaly accepted as such before being used later in modern English as a negative term.

Perhaps the irony is not a French guy typing in his third language and getting the spelling wrong? Perhaps it's someone using a French word out of context to a French guy on an English speaking forum? Perhaps even when the guy in question types things in such poor grammar like
We all know to be wary of BMWs, Volvo's and newer Skoda's,
    and then calles other pedants?

I'm only guessing though Pendulum, as you can tell, my English is poor also.

Lying old frog! What's this then? "I can help with trying to explain your poor use of the possesive apostraphie in your previous posts if you like?"

You started criticising my grammar first! Very hypocritical, considering your own grammar and spelling is so poor. I don't care if English is your first or tenth language, you shouldn't criticise others when your own writing is substandard.

Now try addressing the driving-related comments I aimed at you! ;)

Amidst all the discussion above, I don't know whether anyone has suggested you speak to a Solicitor. A good criminal solicitor will be worth their weight in gold to you at this moment.

Ah racism, the high road of intelectual banter. I said the above after you called me a pedant. I hadn't even mentioned grammar before you called it me. I still don't fully understand why you called it me? I guessed because I mentioned because I drive well but as I also said I speed, it's hardly pedantic in the modern sense of sticking to the rules. It's quite simple to go back through the posts to see for yourself.

I accept my spelling may not be up to your standard what with this being my third language and all, but my grammar? It's not so bad I use apostrophes for plurals is it? Or should that be plural's?

You've been arguing with people because they say it's wrong to speed. You said its ok to speed when it's safe. I agreed but you're still upset at me because the one part I disagreed with, when you said it's hard to spot an umarked Police car or a bobby on a pro-laser. I can't help it if thats how I feel, I speed but don't have any points. Of course i'm going to feel that way.

I could help with that too if it wern't for people arguing about everything. I really don't understand the tone people take on forums, the crash law one epitomises it. It was shown on there how very little we know about each other and the qualities we can bring to the forum. I mentioned earlier, I'm a well qualified driver who isn't immune to the real world and enjoys speed as much as anyone else (if not more!). I've also made no bones about the fact that i'm a lawyer too. Surely it'd be better to just have a civilised discussion, i'm fairly sure I could bring alot to it if it wern't for the people who just insist on being right and arguing.
