This does indeed seem a very good deal. However I am concerened about the people with -11 prescriptions being advised that 1.7 or 1.74 plastic lenses are suitable! (I am a qualified optical assistant and would never recomend these lenses, even with the tiny frames that are fashionable at the moment).
I very much doubt they would be. I have a -6.50 prescription and only just get away with these lenses. Prior to these relitivley new thin plastic lenses, I had 1.8 glass which is MUCH thinner but quite heavy. With -11 prescriptions a small frame and 1.8 or above glass lenses are much better)
All I am saying is before you go ahead with this offer, ask the assistant to show you a comparison of what you are currently wearing and what they are suggesting. Besides the thickness, you will have more back/side reflections that would be a problem)0 -

I'm guessing that 1.9 and 1.7 is the thickness of the glass.
lenses come in glass and plastic.
They all have a Refractive index, 1.49 (standard plastic)up to 1.9(thin glass).
1.74 is the thinnest plastic is made, so for high prescriptions, heavier glass lenses are chosen as they are thinner and look much better with clearer vision)0 -
does this work with nhs?
never been unemployed before so unsure, any help would be appriciated0 -
I paid £180 for my variafocal with thin lenses @ Asda back in March but my OH paid £240 for his with extra thin lenses recommended to those with prescription over -5.0. Honestly not much different in thickness? We both happy with our glasses and save quite a bit compare to D&A, Boots.........0

My current specs are 1.67 as they're transition lenses as apparently that's the thinnest I can get. My previous specs were 1.7, my optician doesn't recommend glass lenses because they're heavier and therefore not as comfortable to wear.
I find that the specs look OK (they're never going to look fantastic with my prescription, -11.25 and -11.75) as long as I choose a small frame, i.e. I don't go above 49 (I think that's the size of the lens width in mm). Luckily I've got a small face so small specs look fine.0 -
what is the deal if u have a nhs examption card??0

Just to second what Sue S said above, Ive just been into Asda Corby and asked how much it would be for 1.7 lenses and she at first said £180 for the two pairs but she had a bit of a mess about on the system, and put it in a different way, and came up with free! (or included in the £90 at least!)
As a word of warning she said that did seem too good to be true and thought it might be a glitch, but she was really nice and instead of reporting it or anything she just suggested I got them as quick as I can! Pity I was just on my lunch and havent got a recent prescription.

Can someone confirm whether the 1.74 is included in the 'standard lens' price...or is it just 1.67/1.7? THANKS!...trying to be more money savvy everyday. :T0

Well my OH did this yesterday with hes nhs exemption card ,, booked a free eye test , then bought hes glasses they give you a voucher for £36.20 and you pay the rest all done ,
If you have had afree eye test else where and have the prescription and the yellow voucher they will still take it so £14.80 to pay for a nice pair of glassesDont forget that little Thanks button , only takes a sec0
