Well done lads, if you don't mind me saying so. I think your last two posts sum up what this forum is all about, it's nice to be nice. Some times you get people on here who just seem to be out for an argument.
Sorry to go of topic.Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

I've read through all the validation threads, but still have a problem.
My version of XP was preinstalled on a brand new computer from EMachines, bought from a high street shop. I'm getting the message about it being a copy.
How can this be? Is there anything I can do about it?
I don't have a disk with XP on it from the manufacturer, but I do have the restore disks. Will it be on there?
I had a horrible virus on the machine over the New Year, and since then I've not been able to use my Money 2003 programme because there is some command missing.
Could this be affecting the nag?DMP mutual support number 174Total debt now (April 10) £0! - total paid off £30,221 or 100%I'm now debt free after 6 years!!:jNon smoker since June 2006 :j0 -

Using the restore disk (thats XP with all the correct drivers and all the freebies) will set the PC to out of the box condition and the Validation shouldnt appear in all nonesty.
Just chuck the restore CD in first and then have a look at the CDs contents to just make sure but that may noy gaurantee that all the programs are on the disk.0 -
Thanks Quincy (I've wanted to say that since I was 12!).
I haven't looked any further into this, and have been out for most of today. I've restarted the machine just now and I didn't get the message. Is right or will I get another message in a day or so?

you could always tell windows to inform you when updates are available, but not to install them. Then when your comp downloads your updates, you get the option to 'un-check' the box that installs the validation thing in the first place.

May also check whether XP Validation is actually on or off.
From Internet Explorer, Tools, Manage Add-Ons, Then where it says Show use the drop down menu to select, Add Ons that have been used by Internet Explorer, now there maybe a radial button to use enable or disable try enabling if not enabled already, this may however be greyed out altogether.

Aria are currently offering legit OEM versions of XP Home edition for £59.69
Might be worth looking into...although there are hurdles for jump over to qualify to buy OEM.

My version of XP is not genuine and can't afford the US$129 that MS want. Looks like I'm going to be a Linux convert.

Well my version is totally legitimate since I bought a new Dell PC from Dell and still Windows is telling me I have a dodgy copy! I am not impressed.0
