Sorry m8, he saw you coming. He has prolly made ALOT of money with that one original XP disc. Charging you £100 to basically 'borrow' it.
You paid £100 for it, he should of left you the CD and COA as it is yours.0 -
As I cannot afford to pay out any more money, what will happen if I don't change it?
I have been using this for 18 months.0 -

In all honesty, nothing! If they can't be bothered to go visit fairs where they are tipped off with illegal activity then I doubt you will be a concern to them.
The onlything you might find is that you can't download any updates from microsoft anymore as you can't validate windows.0 -
Thank you so much for your help! I will be more carefull in future.
How do I delete the message. My only other option was to put Windows 98 back on as I have the disc and number.0 -
Not sure if you can get rid of the message until you have a valid serial.
There is always some way of working round stuff, specailly when there are so many people out there who do nothing but crack the so called hard work done by Microsoft employees.
Google is brainy!0 -
Maybe try to do a restore previous to your last MS update and then turn off
automatic updates, as previously said unless you have a valid serial number you
will not be able to use this function now anyways.0 -

98 flies, doesn't self destruct like XP, you're in control again
I agree, 98SE was a cracking operating system for me. If you had the right hardware/drivers then it was for me a very stable o/s. Didn't need huggins of memory for all the unwanted background services. I also prefer 98's 'My Documents' location - no user accounts
If you have buggy drivers and badly supported hardware (some TV cards) then 98SE was a nightmare because of the STOP blue screens.
But I doubt I would like to go back from XP now as it would be like going back to a fiesta popular plus.0
