You can basically build your own Windows disc. On mine I've included all the latest service packs and update, removed unecessary components, and set common apps like QuickTime Alternative to install when Windows installs.
Just to digress very slightly. Does anyone have a list of the most common 'alternative' apps that people use. I would like to trim my laptop system down as much as possible by running smaller apps that do the same job as some of the bloatware.

A list or pointer to a URL with these programs would be great.

    Thanks.

Windows update today told me to download critical update, which turned out to be WGA which I thought had already downloaded. Checked back on my history and sure enough downloaded 5th June originally. Anyway, downloaded again today - would downloading this affect Norton? After I had restarted computer, message from Norton saying that something had tried to change settings, but Norton was putting them back to original settings in case of malware, hacking etc.
All appears to be working normally, Norton is certainly working fine....just don't like the thought of MS farting about with my AV!

    Remove the WGA nag

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921914

You will still get the WGA validation tool KB892130 download to check if you have genuine XP in order to get the updates.
