This also happened to me, but I have managed to install all of the latest updates without any problems.
I just set the install procedure to manual and left out KB905474, which was the one that caused all of the problems.

PS. My copy of XP is completely legit with all codes and paperwork, and was still affected.

When you go to update you will be presented with a list of options and its then you can choose to install WGA or not, but now that problem is now cured you should be OK, also Im not to sure if WGA is optional I think MS make it as a ness file?

Just a quick update. I did the install today and haven't had a problem. I've got a feeling it was my firewall stopping things getting through properly.

All the updates are KB89... or KB91.....

WGA is not showing on the list of updates thingy.

I'm going in, wish me luck!

:j when you get a new pc with xp on, the shop has installed it and activated it but not registered it so if you register it in your name over the internet this should sort out the problem. if not contact MS and report who ever it was. T

Seems to be a rumour that is has, also they are very helpful almost overly helpful so it seems WGA tool is a bit flaky at the mo as it happened to me and basically no questions asked and my PC is 100% legit.
