To force sellers to not charge postage is controlling and undemocratic. They should just look at the sellers who are ripping off their customers and deal with them accordingly instead of penalising the rest of us who charge reasonable prices. I haven't used them since this change.

Good, I see it's not just me, someone else like minded that isn't viewing the world through Ebay tinted glasses. Last year I had some trouble making nutter email me actually bragging he was going to leave me my first negative feedback and that it was going to be a "cracker". I complained to Ebay, sent them the abusive emails, sent them my emails I sent to the buyer to show I had been polite and tried to resolve the issue (whatever it was). The guy left me bad feedback calling me a "liar" etc. Did Ebay help me...? No. They let the idiot continue to abuse other sellers and sent me some wet message with a lame excuse as to why they couldn't remove my negative rating.

So tell me a company that operates as a democracy? Within the law Ebay can do what they like.

Its a business not a democracy. They are not saying you can't charge postage just you can't charge separate postage. Add it to your start price.

As has been said before if you don't like it sell elsewhere. Democracy in action vote with your feet

No it is not just you. Ebay are so far up their buyers' backsides and do not give a s**t about the sellers. People will say if you don't like their policies then don't use them, well I did use them but now I don't.

So whats your point you have nothing to moan about if you don't use them eh

So whats the problem with that.

I know your going to say increased listing fees. Well the free 99p listings for private sellers have only been in place since March. What did you do before then? Everyone is in the same boat. You have 2 choices list at 99p and risk you don't cover your costs. List at a realistic price and cover costs which most sellers are doing. If it doesn;t sell at the increased cost it more than likely wouldn't have sold with separate P&P

If you are a business seller of course you shouldn't be listing on the Free 99p listings anyway.

well higher fees for a start, higher inseration fees and final value fee!

It's not so much an "ebay appreciation society", but when a certain platform provides you with a near-as-dammit 6 figure annual income, you do tend to have a slightly different perspective on it.

I don't work for ebay, but I do make sure that ebay works for me.

And that means not having petulant tantrums every time a policy changes.

what are you selling? is this a full time job for you?

Either adapt and continue, or go elsewhere - complaining gets nobody anywhere with ebay, especially as they reported increased revenue and growth yesterday.
Seriously? How the smeg did that happen?
It's getting a bit crazy now: the categories for which "free" p&p is required seem to be selected almost at random, and instead of having the compulsory "free" p&p pre-filled when you list in a "free" p&p category, it will let you fill in your chosen p&p amount and corresponding start price and only tell you it's not allowed when you try to submit the listing.
You can list women's bags with separate p&p, but men's bags (which are probably bigger and heavier on average) are categorised under Men's Accessories, for which inclusive p&p is required. Men's kilts are also inexplicably categorised as "accessories", and a proper 8-yard woollen kilt will normally weigh in excess of 2kg.
Oh, and if you're listing directly on eBay and decide to change your listing to another relevant category which allows p&p charges, you will find most of the information you just typed in has vanished and you need to do it again.
I dislike the new rules just as much as a buyer as I do as a seller: when sellers are no longer able to offer postage discounts for multiple purchases, everybody loses.
Their ball, their rules: but if only someone else were able to bring a better ball to the playground, the kid who wouldn't play fair would find he wasn't as popular as he thought.

I keep hearing the same chorus "if you don't like it, go elsewhere, if you don't like it, go elsewhere" Perhaps you could all record a song.

Good idea, we'll sell it on Ebay, shame all those people won't be there to buy it;) Its about time some sellers started a new petition or went on strike that would show them you mean business!

I spend on average about £270-£350 per month in ebay and paypal fees, and that gives me a pretty much worldwide reach. Add another £500 a month or so in postage costs and fixed expenses, there are not many B&M shops that you can run for £850 per month for that sort of market exposure.

I recently viewed a small enclosed area within a selling venue with a colleague who was considering expanded her sales.I don't recall the square footage but the area was approx the size of a small shed, around 6x8 foot.

The rental cost was a straight £300 a week all in for the first 3 months as a special offer, on top of that she had to pay an enhanced insurance premium and a set percentage of sales as a selling premium that topped up wages for the staff who managed the total venue.

They suggested a walk by rate of approx 900 people a week doubling in the period running up to Christmas, although other renters said this was a bit ambitious.

It was lovely and the idea of a little shop was very appealing, but we smiled politely had a nice lunch in a pub nearby and then I dropped her back at her home where she carries on using ebay and her own website instead. The idea of leaving ebay was a bit of a dream, the reality was she couldn't afford to leave ebay or even double trade as ebay was able to offer her so much more than a B and M premises.
