Grant Advisory Service telesales
Comments
-
I have just received a call from 'Energy Group' with the same number (1800509652) who say they are a Grant Advisory Service. They had lots of details about me and my property and asked for more. I am ex directory and registered not to receive cold callers. When I explained this, the caller said that he was not selling anything but advising about something that I am entitled to. I googled this 'service' as soon as I got off the phone and found this on the forum.
They said that they would call again to arrange a home visit. I will now tell them where to go.
So frustrating!0 -
I have just had a phone call from the same company and when I asked where he got my number from he spouted some crap and then when he started asking about my property and I mentioned that I didn't live in a house he said apartment and I didn't respond - next thing I knew he hung up on me!!
A professional company would never do this, they would state who they are calling on behalf of, would be able to give you more details and would never hang up!
When I did 1471 the number was withheld - a true professional company would never do this as it is not best practice!!
Just be very careful of this one as they don't have a website that you can go look at!!0 -
So, My first post.... sadly on a bad note.
I think this will be the first post in 2011 about these people.
Grant Advisory Service called today. several times. trying to get through to me by name. All 3 calls sounded like sub continent call centres (being politically correct).
3rd time unlucky I had the misfortune to take a call that lead to the most concerning calls.
These people have not just Name and phone number, but also Address too.
After saying I was registered with TPS, I said they should not be calling and where did they get my name and number. The reply was "from the lady on tower bridge". I accused him of taking the p**** and asked more insistently twice more... when he admitted it was actually a statue of a lady on tower bridge.
Great. Stop calling me.
From there things got nasty. I confess I did also swear, but I've now had 15 or so calls with loud noises or immediate swearing, but of convern is that they know your address too... as he was saying Mr Swearword at XX address.
Call ID is withheld.
This is why big companies should be more careful of our data, as it goes out to subcontinent and rogue traders. Clearly these people have more than names and numbers and given how Identity theft is rife, I am much more concerned that simply a few swear words.
Be careful. Perhaps be calm and just put the phone down. I wish I had done.0 -

Maybe take some lessons from this and have some fun.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
Hi
Just had a call from them now. One of our foreign brothers.
Asked if I was Mr xxxx and then said he was from the Grant Advisory Service and he was going to tell me why he was calling.
I stopped him and asked him where he had got my name and telephone number from.
All went quiet apart from the dialling tone on the telephone.
1471 for the number guess what, not available.0 -
I too have just received a call from Grant Advisory Service, asked for my OH said he wasn't available, can I speak to Mrs ... also said she wasn't available. They hung up. My caller ID came up with Out of Area. I do try to avoid these calls, but hate phone ringing for ages when children trying to sleep.0

Thanks! Just had a 2nd phone call from these people which shows as 'International' both men sound Indian, they refuse to tell me how they got my phone number or what his No. is or location. Tells me I have not claimed gov. grant for the property for the last 10years - its only 5yrs old! Told him not to phone again - any chance they won't?? These people are a menace but how do you get rid of them?0

I've been having these calls for a year.
Just had one now. When you tell them you've asked to be taken off their list they simply put the phone down. A couple of times they get aggressive and say ''why, this is not a sales call, I am calling to help you'' I resist the temptation to tell them just how they could help me and start to say something about TPS and within ten seconds they put the phone down.
I don't know why I find these calls so very annoying. but I do.0 -
Had a call from this lot today. Similar story to previous posts, polite, but pushy foreign chap telling me that my property has just become eligible for a free 100% home improvement grant (eg loft insulation).
Only details I could get from him about his company was a website address of energygrantsadvisor.com which looks legit at first glance, but has very little substance to it.
When challenged on TPS, his reply was that they aren't selling anything so they are exempt.
He was getting very pushy and kept demanding to know why I wasn't interested in a free grant, but got the message when I told him that was my business, not his!
Waiting for the follow on calls ... at which point I'll try reporting through ICO/TPS.0 -
They may be genuine - a few years back I was cold called by a company and they did give me a website address. I checked it and phoned Trading Standards and was told they were currently doing this work backed by a government grant. Their rep came - assessed what we needed (cavity wall insulation) decided we had enough loft insulation and left. a few weeks later they contacted me and asked if I wanted them to go ahead with the cavity insulation which I did. they came, did the work and it didnt cost me a penny! they didnt pressure me in any way they did a good job - and I was happy with what they did. (I am a cynical so-and-so but tbh I didnt know this grant was available until their rep told me I was eligable. so there are reputable companies out there - just check them out thoroughly - they should give you full details which you can check online or with Trading Standards!
btw - I still get cold called by other companies about cavity wall insulation etc - I just tell them the works already been done and usually they just say thats fine then!0
