Does this sound extremely selfish! As it stands your son, has many many more xmas' to come!! For some children this will be their last christmas! I would prefer to see their faces lit up over xmas rather than MY childrens.

HOW do you know he will have more Christmas' to come?? For all you know he could come down with a fatal illness (I sure hope not) next week!!

Hey ho - each to their own.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:
  • what about people who had wanted to buy them for THEIR children????? what are you going to say to their dissapointed faces........ "sorry but you're not special enough!"?

personally Harrods should sell them to those that have been promised.
They can then donate ALL the money raised (or toy equivalent) to the charities.

So WHAT if people sell them on???? If I could I would........ I would then use the huge profit I would make to put on my own debts to make my own sons life better.

Sorry - and I am anticipating a stabbing here - but MY son will ALWAYS be a higher priority to ME then anyone elses!! Thats not to say I don't feel for other children and their situations but they are not MY first priority!!

Just for the record I didn't order one (or even try too) before anyone acuses me of being jealous etc.

As a Mum of a child with a serious and life threatening illness who is under the care of GOSH perhaps you could explain to me why you feel the need to state that you have to say to your son, sorry you are not special enough!!
I would hope you would bring him up to thank his lucky stars that he has his health. Believe me my son would like the choice between being 'normal' or 'special' when the world of 'special' involves medicine, medical treatments, a constant stream of appointments and taking medicine that makes you sick, going to school with one to one carers etc... believe me that is not 'special'
Perhaps one day you could request a visit to GOSH and look carefully at the suffering of the children and their parents - who sit their helplessly looking on..
The last thing on their mind is a meerkat!! - keeping their children alive and free from pain yes - meerkats no.
The children of GOSH don't ask to be special, they most certainly don't want to be 'special' but yes they are usually the most remarkable, brave children you will ever meet..

And then im sure he would be delighted if Harrods had given a charity who was helping him, a Meerkat to pass on to him.

Can we keep this thread friendly?
People have different opinions but attacking each other for having different ones is not the way to go.
I think it is a lovely gesture by Harrods, but if I had been confirmed one and was waiting for it to be released, having planned a present round it I would be narked.
    Good idea, bad planning, IMHO

which is why i said "AS IT STANDS" I really hope your child isn't one of the "special" children who needs care from places like GOSH

  • Harrods have handled this incredibly badly! I phoned up and put my name on the reservations list and was told I'd be contacted later for my payment details.

Then I got a phone call telling me to look out for an email in the first week of December - which means the plan to give them to charity is a last-minute idea which hasn't been thought through.

This has nothing to do with how deserving the children's charities are, I don't dispute that, but why mislead people and then change their plans at the last minute?
  • If you'd like an alternative I think this one is cute. Looks good quality too and there is 10% off it.

I think its a lovely gesture for Harrods to give them to charity.

These were a Ltd Edition Item exclusive to Harrods and the demand outstripped the supply.

Perhaps they should have had a waiting list for how many they actually had.

There are other Merkats on sale in Clintons and on JL website. Not as nice though
  • A great gesture - restores my faith in human nature:D
