1 min start working at 90% of YOUR max heart rate - thats really important its you thats doing this ok ? so for some ppl 90% will be running at 13.5km on a treadmill - for someone else it will be a power walk at 8.0km whilst holding on
anyone can do JUST 1 MINUTE !!
that could be pretty dangerous if your not used too exercising and especially if you have not done it for a long time and have been carrying a lot of weight, doubly so if you have been clogging your arteries with cheese, cakes, burgers and curry
its a good program you have listed there but for most people starting of after a long period of abuse 30 mins of straight cardio at 60-70% HR 3 times a week is good enough i think, build into interval type training after you have your basic fitness back0 -

hence the assumption i added at the bottom of my post - i dont see many beginners in the gym that i work at that can do 30 mins cardio tbh
however working at 90% of your own HR is achievable because its a moveable %tage
are you a gym instructor as well Eric ? its only going to help having us on board to be able to suggest things when fellow posters are nervous of the gym and exercise:j MFi3 wannabee :j

I wish I was nervous of exercise....... I just can't be bothered:o:D
Anyway, I have fallen off the wagon, not the chocolate one but the diet in general one......so I am going to start slimfast, or if you lovely peeps could suggest something else that I can make up with milk that will be just as thick?
I need to cut everything out for a while and this is the best way for me to do it!
I hope you are all feeling a bit more positive???
Come on we can do it:j:j:j:jput your minds to it RA RA RA!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: (you have missed me haven't you;))0 -

Daisy i didnt know we had such fitness expertise on here, I have been going to the gym for about 6 weeks now , I go about 4 times a week and do an hours cardio 1/2 hr on the tread mill walking at various gradients and then split the next half hour on the rower/ cross trainer/ recumbant bike then do some weights on legs arms abdo and bum, then finsih off with 5 mins on the power plates relaxing , do you think that is ok or should i change what i do ? (i do get quite hot and sweaty doing cardio)0 -

well i dont profess to be an expert but i am a gym instructor
if clients come saying they need to lose body fat - the advice is once you have done your warm up then do your strength work then your main cardio
the reason is because within our muscles we store enough energy from our days food to exercise for about 20 mins - so once thats gone you start on burning your stored energy AKA fat - hence the term fat burning zone
so it makes sense to save your hardest part of the workout for when you are going to get maximum gain and impact ??
however i really do recommend some kind of interval style training as talked about before reason being in this case when you exercise at steady rate ie aerobically or 60/70% of MHR - your post exercise calorie burn is quite a short time span - up to about 6 hours if your lucky but with interval type training the calories burn after can last up to 48 hours after
now thats got to be a great incentive to exercise surely ?? the fact that you can continue to burn calories whilst sat on the sofa all due to the type of training your doing !!
HTH
editted to add - i wouldnt advise really being in the gym much more than an hour really - you become tired your technique can suffer and thats when injuries occur
also back to the interval training - its a much more efficient way of training so you dont have to spend so long there but get the same or better results
well done on your training program tho - your doing really well and making it into a habit:j MFi3 wannabee :j

Jeeeez, all or nothing on this thread
Did you get that alias? c'mon shape up
Dont fret about being in a cozzy, i didnt, sod it, some of them have 'hold you in' panels now, just go and enjoy, but 7 weeks of diet and exercise will work wonders.
Btw, OH is just jealous that you're more of a man at diy than he is!!!
I use water in my shakes and its perfectly fine, very nice taste in fact0 -

no just a (former) gym bunny that reads to much
I just err on the side of caution, it is always advisable to make use of the instructors at your gym if they are there since they can actually evaluate you rather than having to make assumptions and play safe on a forum, it is very easy to damage your heart and arties on a high sat fat / sugar / salt diet with low activity after all.
For me since I am LC'ing only need to warm up for 2-3 mins to burn of my stored body energy before i go into ketosis.0 -
Morning peeps :hello:
sarah, thanks for the lactofree info, I'll have a look in Tesco (once I've made my mind up on the shakes that is)
I am loving the fit flops so far, agree they are soooooooo comfy. I wore them around the house yesterday & I've got them on this morning & I'm sure I can feel them working. The inbetween bit of my toes are a bit tender so I'm going to just wear them in the house for a couple of days, but I can't wait to wear them outside, they look so cool!! :rotfl:
alias, good luck with the gym, if you have membership you may as well give it a go (just don't go with OH). I can soooooo empathise with the competitive male syndrome, I know hubby would do exactly the same & it would just really pee me off
Hope you manage to get a hol booked & like mazzers said, you could make a real difference to how you feel/look in 7 weeks
Bubby, good luck with the slimfastI had been thinking about doing that & saw them half-price somewhere?? Could have been in Boots?? I've decided against it though because I noticed the carbs were a bit high.
We still haven't booked a holidayWe were supposed to be going to France but I think it's going to be too expensive when we factor in petrol, getting passports for me/hubby etc. Sunny, have actually been thinking of holidaying in Cornwall. We went for the Eclipse in 1999 (& managed to see it :j) & stayed in Newquay. It really is a gorgeous part of the world so you've got me thinking more seriously about it now
Anyway, have a good day everyone :wave:0 -
Morning everyone, hope spirits are high today, I am on day 2 of my proper low carb diet, did really well last nite, had burgers with cheese (no buns) with veg and was very surpised at how full I was, couldn't finish it, then drank water.
have decided if I get a craving for something naughty then a ice cold can of diet coke does the trick.
I have turkey ham salad for my lunch today and OH cooked a chicken last night so that will be my tea tonight.
Hope my moral stays up.
Getting my legs waxed tonight as me and OH are going to the gym together at the weekend but fortunatley we don't work out together, he goes off to the weights whilst I am on the cross trainer or excercise bike.
Alias - why don't you try the gym without him or tell him how he is making you feel? I kind of had a rant at OH last night as I felt he was mocking me a little bit by saying I will never stick to this low carb diet.
Sweets - thanks for the coleslaw recipe - you are a star:T0 -
Aliasojo I really can't recommend walking enough. I've tried the gym and absolutely hate it but I love walking so much. I have a lovely park and canal near by and it really lifts my mood seeing all the wildlife and beautiful flowers and blossoms. I am usually out there come rain or shine. I usually wear my pedometer each day to record my steps and that is a great motivator. I sometimes ride my bike too. I have lost two stone altogether by keeping a food diary, increasing my fruit and veg dramatically, slightly reducing my portions and I have just started eating oily fish. I have also increased my walking but that's it!Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.
