mazzers, sorry to hear about the fibroid :( I've heard of them before, my Mum was diagnosed with them but don't remember anything was done about them though, so maybe they were too little to be a problem. I'm just wondering whether I'm brave enough to google large fibroids!! _pale_ Hope you get sorted.

sarah, what's lactofree?? Is it in the chilled section with the milk?? If/when I decide on the shakes, I might try that as I'm not sure about making them up with water, thought it would make them taste erm, watery :o

alias, come back soon honey bunny, hope you doing ok :kisses3:

foxy, HM coleslaw is easy to make. Just shredded white cabbage, grated carrot (if you're not being too strict), finely chopped red onion (again if you're not being too strict, you could use spring onions as I think they have less carbs) mix them all together with some full-fat mayo and/or Lidl greek yogurt & a good twist of black pepper. Yummy. Think some peeps add vinegar to thin it down a bit if required.

Sweet, lactofree is available in all the supermarkets (big ones anyway) in the chill milk section. It's this:http://www.lactofree.co.uk/products/dairy-drink/nutritional-information/

I love fit flops, though I'm not sure they actually do anything. They're just damn comfy - believe me, after a few weeks of wearing them you won't want to put anything else on your feet. I've had the same pair for three years now so they last too.

Like the fit flops sweet. I must be getting old 'cos after I thought 'they're nice'...I then thought 'my god, what a price for so little material'. I am my Mother. :o

Maz, sorry about the fibroid but glad to see things weren't any worse.

Right I'm at the stage now of either sinking down so much that I'm going to be depressed forever and I'm going to eat and drink myself to death ....or I have a last blast at trying to change. Again!

I have a small goal in my sights. I will be child free for a week in 7 weeks time. As most of you know, OH and I have an uneasy relationship and our lives are pretty stressful because of eldest's disabilities. So I'm thinking it might be a good idea to literally book a last minute holiday, well at the last minute really, :D so when the kids head off, so could we.

BUT..... I am fat. I have no confidence IRL. I will be miserable sat on a beach being fat. OH has lost almost 2 stones and goes to the gym regularly which makes me feel worse. He's not very supportive and treats everything like a big competition he has to win and doesn't like being held back so I'm not asking him for help. He'd suggest I did 5 minutes on an exercise bike then pick the one next to me and pedal furiously just so it was clear how much better he was, iyswim. I don't even think he realises how unsupportive he actually is, but that's a different subject. :o

Anyway, the point of all this is....I need a plan to follow. I have a gym membership and a pair of trainers not out the box yet. I need to use them. I have no idea what to do though. When people go to gyms do they just have so long on this machine and so long on the next ....or what? I can't afford a personal trainer and our gym is only a small country town job, it's not an all singing all dancing thing.

Can anyone suggest a plan to follow? Eric, you exercise a lot, any suggestions? Or even suggest a site that has fit peeps that could maybe help me get started. I'm not great at being left to my own devices with stuff like this, I'm better being told what to do and how often to do it. :o I realise 7 weeks is no time at all, but if I could make any kind of difference in that space of time it would help me a lot with how I feel about myself.

I'm aware I'm getting really close to what I think is actual depression and exercise is supposed to be beneficial for that too so I've got reason to try I think.

Could use some help though. :o

Aw jo. My first thought is, does it have to be a beach holiday? Because no matter how much you lose between now nad then, if you're anything like me you'll still be unsatisfied. Could you do a nice cultural tour of Italy or something like that, where you don't have to be exposed all the time? Or go somewhere really cold??!! That way you'd be able to concentrate on having a nice time and not worry about what other people are thinking / resenting the OH for being unsupportive.
    Hugs.

I just wanted to sit and relax and do nothing, think about nothing, organise nothing and have to be nowhere. Iyswim. (Oh and I don't do cold very well either. :o)

And beggers can't be choosers so it would really just have to be whatever came up cheap at the very last minute. Usual cheapo suspects are Spain and Turkey I think.

Have a hug firstly. What a shame your H isn't more supportive :(

I have limited time and I when I do have time for exercise (say when we go for a swim on a Sunday morning with the kids) I try and do interval type training. Basically you exercise as hard and as fast as you can for a short burst (say one minute) and then work at a slow pace for a minute, then work as fast as you can and so on.
Not really a gym fan :o but skipping is really good and one of those exercises that you can do as interval training.

Oh and if you have an MP3 player put on some tunes that you really enjoy - I find music always makes exercise sooooo much better.

    Afternoon guys,

well i think i`ve not done too bad so far today, sticking to my lowish carb plan without being too drastic, still seems strange though not being as strict as when i was on the Atkins plan but i`m getting used to it.

In the last eleven hours i`ve had two shakes and a peperami (gotta be the red one though) and one small sandwich. Think it will end up being salad of some description later.

Sweet - :rotfl: at the shakes sorry :o i can see myself in what you posted re the information overload which is why i`ve stopped doing it as much :D The H&B own make ones are higher carb but less calories - i`ve only glanced at the info for obvious reasons :D it depends what type of plan/diet? that you are following. I`m doing lowish carb and meal replacement and although i`ve not lost for a few days i`ve not gained either and at TOTM thats all good in my book. I`m four pounds lighter altogether so if this continues i shall be happy and i`ve not cut out the booze either - just not having very much. I think that i shall try the one that mazzers posted earlier when i`m ready for a refill, would would out quite a bit cheaper and not much different to the maxitone one. Love the fitflops :D

Alias - ((((HUGS)))) sorry to hear that you`re still down :( Hopefully not for long, its never easy. Have you considered a hol in somewhere like Cornwall?
Weather may not be as warm but t-shirt and jeans type weather, when we last went i had a mahoosive t-shirt which was nice and long and just waded into the sea in it :D no way would i brave a cossie even if i could get one that fitted properly :o

There are loads of places to visit, little beachy coves well out of the way so you can get a bay to yourself sometimes, lots of things to do and walks. We had lots of days out in different places and i must say it was my ideal holiday. We loved it so much we went 4 years running and hope to get down later this year but it all depends on how our little old doggie is as he can`t walk far.

Theres something about walking along the clifftops at sunrise and sunset which just seems so peaceful, i`ve not been so relaxed since.

Eric - Thanks for posting the info re the shakes, i`ve bookmarked them as a backup just in case i don`t like the ones that Mazzers posted :D

Just thinking - I`ve got much more energy now, wonder if it is the shakes making a difference, usually when i`m on the early shift i`m yawning by lunchtime, i`ve now been up almost 12 hours and only had 4 hours sleep and don`t feel anywhere near as tired as usual. Could really get used to feeling like this :D

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

alias - the interval training advice up above is what you need honey

you must warm up first so give the cross trainer a ten min gentle go - make sure you have some resistance so your not just using momentum - you need to be working hard enough that you are slightly out of breathe and have a glow !!
move onto strength work next so at this point just work the major muscles groups - pref in this order - leg press lat pull down chest press
upper back would be nice but not essential and working abs and lowe back isnt a priority here - big muscle groups require a high calorie burn to get them moving
start off with 2 sets of 12 reps at a weight that leaves you a little shaky on last one or two
you should also get out of breathe doing strength work - ask the gym staff to check your technique - esp on leg press - soft knees essential

now go back to do your main cardio set - this is where the intervals come in
so aim to work for around 12-15 mins initally - you can do this on either a bike or a treadmill or even back on the cross trainer - up to you
so start off with 2 mins getting comfortable bringing your heartrate up nice and slowly then for 1 min start working at 90% of YOUR max heart rate - thats really important its you thats doing this ok ? so for some ppl 90% will be running at 13.5km on a treadmill - for someone else it will be a power walk at 8.0km whilst holding on
anyone can do JUST 1 MINUTE !! ok ? so after a min take 2 min to recover - not stop just recover so take it down to get your breath back then ramp it up for 1 more min comtinue this for at least 4 intervals if you can 5 would be great - then a few mins cool down slow gentle walk or cycle
if you using a bike whack up the resistance levels for the intervals ok ?

hope this has helped :) obviously im working on the assumption that you are fit and healthy for exercise as well xxx

try to find something that you can at least half enjoy, realistically any cardio type exercise will do it, treadmill, bike, x trainer etc

what you are looking for is working at a rate where you breath from the lower part of the lungs but that you can still talk

start of slow and build it up, but it is important to monitor or at least have an idea of where you are so that you can make steady progress, say start at 15 mins first week, 20 mins second week etc, build into it gradually, you only need to do it every other day as well

the first couple of weeks are bitty but once you start to get into it you will feel a lot better
