Well well, shocked at biggest loser, good for them for speaking out.

Had some good news, i've got the full time position, start next week, so better make the most of this last week of laziness.

Hopefully i can start losing again as i've stayed the same for a while, and i'm much more diet focussed on workdays :)

I just found this thread and would love to help if I could. I'm a personal trainer that also has a lot of diet experience (:

Fancy a holiday in the Highlands? You could move in with me for a month or so. :D

oh and every things not good on the show, there obsession with dehydrating contests is coming back to haunt them

I often thought the figures were beyond belief, especially after they'd been losing for a while. Shame really, the show was good enough to not need the losses massaged like that, imo.

They do loose that amount of weight on the most part give or take 10/20lbs. I dont understand the point of dehydrating yourself, you only get the gain once and from then on you need to do it every week or you will appear to put weight on so after the first time of doing it there's no gain from doing it just a tonne of pain, in the finale yes it makes sense but not before, unless you know you are going to go under the line if you dont.

Are you laughing at my desperation or the fact it's the Highlands and not somewhere hot, sunny and exciting? :rotfl:

    Well done mazzers. Good stuff.

I'm slowly getting to grips with Eric's app. Managed to get the GPS to work this morning and burnt a whole 100 calories on the walk to school and the station...

Also enjoying trying to eat 'normally' but smaller portions. It's such a treat after years of low carbing, though I do have the low carb principle in mind. I need to lose only a couple of pounds to put me at goal again, but I always felt my goal was a tad high so am aiming for a slow long-term loss of about another five kilos. I must say it's very interesting counting calories again, it's been so long since I've done it. I always get a panic on that I'm not going to have enough left for dinner - but of course it just means I need to do a bit of exercise to give myself some leeway. It's obvious but when it's spelt out in black and white in front of you you can't ignore it.

Do people trust the machines in the gym when they tell you how many calories you've burnt? I know that when I run/attempt to run I am sweaty and exhausted yet the machine's calorie count seems little different to when I cycle or crosstrain. Actually, maybe that's a good question for our new personal trainer! Nancy, Can you help me out with that please?

The calorie counters on the machines are very poor, generally they pick a one size fit all formula which simply wont work for 99% of people, even the calorie estimator on my personal diet is way out for me. Even identical sized people will have different heart rates and different lean muscle mass which affects your calorie burn

About the best thing I have found without having to go for expensive testing are the polar watch's with OwnCal, they know your age, height, sex, weight and do a basic fitness test on you so make a reasonable stab at your cal expenditure, there still not perfect but much better than the one size fits all method most gym equipment uses, unless your an avg person and fit there formula :p

I have an FT40 and it works out each session to within 15 cals of each other

I also have a CS100 stuck to the top of my treadmill (£30 on ebay :)) as the HRM on it although polar enabled reads wildly differently to my watch

I rely on how I feel and how my clothes fit. If I feel a bit worn out, hot, sweaty and out of breath, then I know it's doing some good. I also know when I've pushed too hard by how my legs feel (usually I get tightness in my thighs but its not been there for a while)
Also, my jeans are falling off me again....am hoping I've lost at least some weight this week
    ** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **
    ** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
    **SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.
