I thought it was because ten "sorry you were out cards" weigh considerably less than your average ten parcels.

In defence of the mail personel here then they're brilliant... if it's something minor (obvious like Amazon etc) they'll sign and leave next to my bin, if it's something sent "special" delivery then they'll try to get one of the neighbours to take it (we all do that for each other round here) and worst case if it's not safe to leave it and no-one is in they leave it at the postoffice at the end of the road so I can amble down and collect it :) Saving me 20-30 minutes to go to the sorting office, wait in line and then home again...
That said - I used to have exactly the same problem at other places I lived so I KNOW I'm very lucky with the postmen and ladies we have in our village :)
Because we know we're lucky we always get them a little christmas present every year :)

Yeah that totally winds me up - I think that most of the postal workers need a shake up - if they strike they should sack them all and give their jobs to people who deserve them - these guys get really good salaries - its a joke

    how much is that?

My regular Postman is wonderful, an absolute gem, who applies common sense to any given situation. Most of there 'others' are okay too.

Why do some people have such a problem with folk being paid a decent wage?

If being a postman is such a fab thing, when did for example Smiffy74 apply for a job as a posty then?

its the same old story, everyone else has a great job
some people dont care what happens in RM(or anything for that matter) until it affects them
this has been ongoing in RM for ages but now the general public are interested
same with the later starts, nobody saw a problem till their mail arrived later

One thing the Daily mail article hasn't got, surprise surprise is a little perspective. Yes it does happen but how many parcels do we get delivered with no problems? I send about 300 parcels a week. I haven't to my knowledge had one go missing or damaged for about 6 months. Quite a good hit rate I think.

Now Parcelforce is a different matter, but due to there new pricing structure I am going over to DHL for the fewer larger/heavier parcels I send

Now that's a sore one- can see why that would put you off signing for parcels!

Don't blame you at all.. nothing's worth losing your job over. Personally I'd much rather do the round trip than have my parcels 'signed for' and left. At least then I know I'll get them- don't trust others in this building to leave parcels alone.
