I too work in the public sector and we get one extra day off at Christmas, we dont get any christmas bonuses or christmas dos like many of the private sector. No cost of living payrise this year either.

I too work the public sector and think it's widely misconceived that we get "extra benefits". I work full time and am on 15k. Because I work in a school our contracts have not been harmonised along with the rest of the local council (sex discrimination if you ask me as most school admin staff are female) and we get the basic 20 days and 8 bank holidays. Apart from the pension, which believe me on a 15k salary a year is not huge, I'd like to know what extra benefits I get because I think I'm missing out!
  • When pensioners go into homes they have to sell their home/use savings to pay for it. Do the same when someone goes to prison. I know assets are claimed in certain circumstances, when crime pays for their lifestyle, but make all prisoners use any savings they have or sell homes to pay for their stay in prison. They are claiming all kinds now such as minimum wage, votes. Make them pay up then for food, lodgings, water, tv licence (as most have tv's and sky now apparently). Sorry I'm on a roll now.
  • We all pay too much for vehicle insurance because of uninsured drivers, so why not catch them when they have to fill up there illegal vehicles sometime sooner or later when it is stationary at the petrol station! Saves police time and money. ANPR Should be fairly Easily implemented as video already present with alarm to local police. I know more surveillance smacks of BB but it would act as strong deterrent and when you fill up you are under surveillance and logged anyway.

There should be legislation to regulate the price of domestic LPG gas.
The prices charged are enormously varied and extortionate.
Having to be tied into a 2 year contract enables the supplier to progressively increase prices every few months.
All suppliers should have to openly declare their price per liter.

No doubt they can raise prices when ever they want but they have to raise by the same amount for everyone (THERE IS A LEGAL REQUIREMENT TO GIVE EVERYONE A FAIR CONTRACT). THAT WILL MEAN THEY HAVE PROGRESIVELY LESS CUSTOMERS. That does not mean that everyones starting price has to be the same because you can shop around and therefore you choose to except the start price. Furthermore some companies do have there prices on the internet and therefore charge everyone exactly the same an example is http://www.extrafuel.co.uk/ who have on there internet site a price of 52.1p per Liter today...........mine charge me 37p per liter so I don't give monkeys if they keep it a secret!!!

0845, 0844, 0870 and 0871 calls cost much more than standard calls and should be scrapped. All companies should have normal phone numbers. This will reduce charges from up to 10p per minute to 5p PER CALL or FREE on some packages.

Let people use any 2 documents they want to open a bank account. Some banks won't accept poll cards, birth certificates, driving licences, passbooks or National Insurance cards. They also won't accept any bank statements, utility bills or government correspondence over 3 months old.
  • Residents living around Manchester United's ground should not have to pay £25 per year for the privilege of parking outside their own home. The football club should be responsible for any cost involved in printing parking permits, as it is only match day traffic that makes parking restrictions necessary in this area.

Go to the Post Office to open an account, you will be surprised how paper free this transaction is until you realise who owns it and getting your money!

We're just back from the Canaries where the ex-pat Brit community is chortling at receiving a "winter fuel allowance" for living in the sun. Their heating bill *for the year* is less than £150 so handing 'em £250 per household merely satisfies greed. Not need.
