Why should road tax depend on the size of the engine? Cars doing the most mileage are the real polluters? People who drive the most should pay for it at the pumps. It also means you couldnt cheat the road tax because you always pay for it when filling up.
This would save the DVLA, policeand the courts a fortune for not having to chase non payers
This is an idea that I have had for some time and agree wholeheartedly with. The present system penalizes the honest motorist while paying extra for non payers. Both because they pay their tax and their insurance while the dishonest one does not care.:cool:0 -
‘Free Healthcare at the point of delivery’ no longer happens. Hospital Car Parking has become a tax on health, extortionate fees exploits the sick. My local hospital charges £3 for 25 minutes, a scandal. Make Hospital parking affordable for the sick and not a burden.0

Pool of energy to free energy market
I think there are about 6 energy companies/generators and new companies can't get a foothold in the market because they cant get the energy at a competative price. the government should make the generators or the grid provide a 1 or 2 percent of the energy they produce free to be sold by the government to companies or co-operatives to get started in the market at a rate that makes them competative.LTSB credit card 22% now... £1677
work 0%............................£300
Sister 0%...........................£1400
Inland revenue....................£208
I owed £18000 in 2005:eek:0 -
Child Benefit should only be for families with a combined annual income of below £70k, for the first 2 children, e.g. £20 for the first child and £15 for the second; no money for subsequent children. This should be gradually applied to those already receiving benefits for over 2 children.0

Change Air Passenger Duty to a percentage of the fare, not a set amount based on short/medium/long haul route.
That way, everyone who flies will pay a fair share and not a rigged amount so that First Class passengers pay a pittance and economy passengers pay more (overall).0 -
Any form of marketing mail, even to existing customers, should be legally required to comply with the council's recycling regulations at the recipient's address without any action by the recipient.
For example: If windowed envelopes must have the plastic windows removed before recycling, the junk mail must use windowless envelopes.
(note: I reckon this is MSE related because most of the junk mail is finance related, such as my monthly loan advert from the Halifax printed on glossy paper and sent in a glossy windowed envelope. I am not allowed to put glossy paper or windowed envelopes into the recycling bin here.)0 -

The Post Office Act states that anything sent by first class post is deemed to have arrived within 10 days. As a result vital messages such as car insurance cancellations and speeding tickets are sent in this way.
This should be changed to a minimum of recorded delivery for anything more important than a monthly statement.0 -
:mad:Holiday companies should be prevented from hiking prices during school holidays. It is unfair to parents, also to staff who work in schools who are very poorly paid [NOT teachers]. Maybe pupils would not be taken out of school for family holidays if costs were evened out over the year.0

Those people who want a Royal family and all their hangers on namely the 'Civil List' should pay for it in an increased tax code and those people who don't, shouldn't. Let's face it the Royal family are the biggest state benefit scroungers.0
