I've just tried to send a transformer (electrical item) to the far east and it is being returned as too dense to XRAY so cannot be shipped. Never been a problem before. Any experience out there?

This is getting worse. My UPS parcel collected Monday bound for Far East was delivered to the booking agent (Transglobal express in Wirral) on Tuesday instead of being returned to me. My emails to Transglobal as to what is happening with my parcel have so far not been answered.

Anyone got firsthand experience of parcelflight?
I've never used them but I've seen them mentioned on here. I asked them a straightforward question on tuesday morning by email and have had no response - not a promising start.
  • Parcelflight are OK, normally I don't bother e-mailing people, if you want something to get done the best way is a telephone, 0161 7281213, mon - fri 9am til 5.30pm
  • And by the way Kayster, phone is best with transglobal as well,

Transglobal are going to send it on direct from their depot with another carrier so thats a happy outcome.
it seems anything with a heavy metal core and wire around it is in trouble with UPS. Hence transformers, loudspeakers, electric motors, dynamos, alternators (all rotating electrics) , amplifiers etc or larger items that contain these components are no good on UPS. I think the paint sprayers I’ve seen mentioned are the “Burgess” rattle type that are effectively a vibrating solenoid that pumps the paint. so again its the metal core and wire syndrome.

It seems like sending parcels has become more and mor expensive and this really does effect an online business and its profit margins?

    I need some help/advice please

I have never tried to sell goods online or via the post so i am unsure if i even have a business right now becuase it seems so expensive to send things to customers that i wont be left with any profit!

the boxes i want to post out are quite big and heavy so im unsure who would be my cheapest option when posting out to UK customers who order from me.

the dimensions and weights are as follows: (length x width x depth)

    50cm x 27 cm x 10 cm (5.1 kg)

    55cm x 30 cm x 7.5 cm (5.1 kg)

    55cm x 29 cm x 12 cm (7.4kg)

    55cm x 29cm x 7cm (4.5kg)

    55cm x 30cm x 9cm (5.5kg)

    61cm x 31cm x 8.5cm (7.5kg)

    62cm x 32cm x 10cm (8kg)

Can anybody tell me where it would be best to go to send these size and weight parcels from please? The cheapest/reliable option?

Would royal mail be best, i intend to visit the post office next week to find out but i have heard they increased their prices recently so maybe i would have cheaper options? As my profit margin on these goods isn't really high at all, so im unsure if it is worth my while at this stage...

I would appreciate any advice or help that you guys can offer

    Im based in Birmingham

    Thanks

I've read Martin's advice on using a courier other than Royal Mail. I've sold something on Ebay and its under 4kg. However reading reviews on couriers like Collect+, Yodel, Interparcel there seems to be so many negative reviews. Can anyone please provide advice on which one to use? Its a UK address it needs to be sent to & I will be looking to insure it up to £100.
2019 Wins: Feb: £10 Aldi Voucher, Frankie & Benny's meal for 2; May: Game from Maynards. June: 2x tickets to Foodies Festival July: £100 September: £30; October: £1000, Goldfinch Merch Pack

    Thanks those who post Comps

The best courier for reliability and care of packages is UPS, they are however not the cheapest.
If you do not mind your parcel taking up to a week to arrive then use one of the budget ones like collect+.
Its like most things you are playing price against service. Personally I like to load the dice in favour of expensive packages arriving on time and in one piece and would choose UPS for a £100 package.

I am currently having issues with Pharos parcel. I booked 2 parcels at the same time both different collections and there system put the same collection address for both parcels. It seems adding more than one parcel to the shopping cart confuses their system.

So I had to email them to cancel one in which they didn't admit there system having a problem or apologise for the inconvenience caused. I had to re-book the cancelled one separately. I did receive a refund for the cancelled one however.

Plus the one that did go through is a failed collection and I am still awaiting collection a week later. It is a UPS service and I have never had a failed collection with UPS so I am assuming it is Pharos computer system at fault again..

Not good at all and really left me in a bad situation with customers.

I am awaiting a resolution I will report back my findings.

    Update:
Happy to report PROBLEM RESOLVED, customer service reasonably quick to reply too. Well done Pharos parcel.
