Parcelforce really depends on whether GLS (parcelforce partner) deliver themselves (they're quite good) or whether they pass it to a network partner, who are sometimes good and sometimes really not, you can check on the link below

Certainly not cheaper but if you considered ParcelForce in respect of ease of any claims should your parcel go astray compared to the above companys, you could pay £27.39 after the current 15% off offer they currently have along with £3.03 cashback via TCB

Guaranteed* international parcel delivery from 2 working days depending on destination
Online tracking and named confirmation of delivery. Proof of delivery available
30 kg maximum weight limit for individual parcels to most destinations
Maximum parcel sizes vary by destination
    £100 compensation included in price
Enhanced compensation up to £2,500 available for an additional fee

Thank you so much for the responses, this raises a question though that I should have asked originally as the item is worth £550. Are there issues claiming with The Package Delivery Company or others mentioned.

    Thanks

The prices you have been quoting will have been for a very low level of loss insurance like £20 or £50. Most of these prices will jump up a lot if you take out a big chunk of insurance.
Your best insurance against loss is to use a first class courier to reduce the risk of a problem and UPS and DHL are first division in my opinion.
Then just in case it goes bad you want to have booked them through a first class booking agent who have staff at the end of a phone as it is the booking agent you will be dealing with in a claim. Thepackagedeliverycompany would not be in that first division.
Often extra chunks of insurance are cheapest by a long way with gwizz couriers and they use UPS so i would be looking at them for this parcel.
  • with thepackagedeliverycompany's insurance seems generally OK, although if you want ultra cheap insurance that pays out go https://www.gwizzcouriers.co.uk,
they'd be £17.60 + VAT with UPS and up to £2000 insurance would be £1 (see which is cheaper including insurance)
  • I thought I'd give The Package Delivery Company Ltd a go after reading through this forum and not finding anything untoward about them - wish I hadn't bothered...
I've booked a parcel through them for delivery to Australia, got the paperwork, attached to parcel, DHL picked up. Less than 12 hours later it is being returned to me because the paperwork is wrong (this was pointed out to me by the driver, but the package delivery company assured me there wouldn't be a problem - there is )
This has cost me £25.00 and I now need to find even more money to get it shipped properly with the correct paperwork.

    Avoid, avoid, avoid :mad::mad:
  • that's not a problem I've ever had I have to say, however when I booked my parcel to australia a while back they used UPS for my one
