for RM thats your only option for the value of your item
otherwise it depends on how cheap you can get a courier
Thinking back, RM paid out the full £500 on a lost suit sent by Airsure so at least I know I'm covered. Which I guess is all that matters.0 -
Slightly off subject as most post are about finding the cheapest reliable service, but I'm trying to find out if there are any companies who offer a professional packing service.
Basically, my boss has a old grandfather clock which she wants sending over to Finland from the her parents house in the UK. Because its quite valuable, she is wanting someone (a company) to pack it for her so that it doesn't break when being transported.
Has anyone had any experience with this type of service? Are there any companies in the UK which offers a packing service as an individual service (so that the parcel can be sent with ups) or as part of a deliverly service? I have done some research and found many house removal services which do their own transportation.
I think the ideal situation would be for some professional company to pack the clock (if possible) and then use ups (thru pharos parcel) to transport, but i guess the main problem would be insurance, i.e who would be payout if the clock is broken i.e the compnay who packed the clock or ups who delivered. So maybe a company who can do both aspects would prob be best.
Any ideas?I use multimatcher lazza which has the tab "bonus if 0-0"0 -
Robinsons, based in Abingdon, are prefect for this. They can quote you an insurance and crating inclusive price. They specialise in antique shipping. http://www.robinsons-intl.com/our-services/specialist-shipping/
I would avoid all parcel companies, UPS included. Antiques are excluded from all standard insurance terms, and they are conveyor based services.
If the price comes in a bit hefty, then you can shave a bit off usually by arranging delivery to their depot in Abingdon direct. The sea service will be cheapest.
I used to be an ebay powerseller selling antiques, and we used Robinsons a lot, and never had one problem.
There are other companies - google; antique shipping. But Robinsons always ticked the boxes for us for price and service.0 -
I have just called my local APC depot and they are charging me £60 for a 6kgs parcel to Australia and Insurance up to £1000!! You can just turn up at their offices and pay. Half the price of any other current courier shipping over there so thought it was worth a mention.

Postcode look up costs the website money. They need to pay for each individual lookup. Most of the postcode look up sites work on a payment in advance basis.0

Senditieasy would be £70 for 6 KG example size say 20 x 30 x 25 cm with £1000 cover. This is DHL Air 2-4 working days delivery.

Hi everyone,
The postcode look up will be available at some point over the weekend.
Sorry for the delay as I know this is a very useful feature.
As our customers have noticed we have had a number of technical issues this past week following our change in server.
Rest assured that we are in the process of bringing back all the functions previously offered.0 -

So you are saying I should pay £10 more to a sub-contracting company that has no contact telephone number. Also, I need to wait in all day for a collection which means I can only send 2 days a week. If you have a problem there is only an email address for contact.
With APC I can drop it off at their office at my convenience, either call or go to their local office (3 miles away) to get it sorted and actually speak to someone in person.
I'd never order from anywhere that did not have a contact telephone number. Surely everyone knows that??
Do you work for senditeasy to suggest a more expensive and inferior service to the one I am getting?0
