It is only really worth the extra if you want a faster processor and more RAM. If you look at the price difference of a 3Ghz processor to a 3.4Ghz processor that would make about £100 difference on it's own...however - do you really need it a bit faster? Possibly - if you are a gamer.
You will most likely get a 250GB hard disk with this spec as other people seem to be.
I didn't think the £229 version was still available so if the question is if the £349 version is a good buy - then I would say yes. Especially if the machine comes with most of a 3 year next business day service warranty - though I don't think we have had any confirmation of this yet from the BT sources units.
Or you could hold on and hope the £229 version comes back in stock.0 -
Just bought the very last of the £229 models (actually had to pay £249 to inc the pesky Works Suite) on the BT website. Now showing as out of stock also0

OK mine's arrived (yay!)
I ordered the £229 from BT (more comeback on the specs than DABS I reckon)
It's a 5150.
I can't plug it in yet as I need the PC it's replacing for another couple of days but from the service tag:
It was made on 6/12/05
1 Yr CAR
3yr Initial Next Business Day
3yr CFI with Completecare
Assuming we get that it is a fantastic deal.
Specs:
P4 630 3ghz
2x256Mb 533Mhz DDR2 sticks
160gb HDD
X300SE Hypermemory (now this only has 32Mb on-board which is NOT what was described)
16x (+/-) DVD-RW (Phillips)
No media card reader (too much to hope for)
Horrible Dell USB Keyboard
Optical USB mouse
Software in box:
Works 7 (note: not works suite which includes Word)
Symantec AV Corporate Ed OEM (3 yrs)
Dell Drivers & Utilities disk
NO OS disc.
Hope that helps those still waiting0 -
If that were my machine I would:
a. Complain to BT that they have missold it because the memory card is NOT a 128MB one as they said it would be. Demand a discount.
b. Complain that there is no media card reader as the picture showed. Demand more discount.
c. Throw away the Dell mouse (and I mean that most sincerely folks) and buy a decent optical one.
d. Uninstall Works and use Office (which I already have).
Still not a bad machine for £250 delivered, but I think you should insist on a little discount. On the plus side a 3 year next business day onsite warranty is worth a shed load of cash and not to be sniffed atYou don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -

Have just cancelled my Dabs order at £229 (which may or may not have arrived!) and ordered one of these for £349 at Bt-shop, with 2.5% quidco cashback. After looking on pricerunner, similar spec'd machines seemed to start at the £700 mark.
Anic, let us know if and when yours turns up (so I can kick myself)

Will do - I'll let you know if or when it gets here. I will just wait and see.
I am not going to go for the dearer one as I have been quite happy with my old steam driven PC but just fancied this upgrade as it was such a bargain price but although the dearer one is still excellent value for money - I don't really need the extras.
If I don't get this one I'll just make do with what I have until the next bargain comes along0
