Salehunter - is yours definitely a 3.0GHz machine? I am still waiting for mine :( but if it isn't a 3.4GHz one I'm going to be giving someone a LOT of stick (there is a massive price difference between a 3.0GHz processor and a 3.4GHz one - a Pentium 4 650 costs about £200 for the processor alone).
Haven't played with it yet so not sure, probably misread the spec, it'll more than likely be 3.4GHz, will confirm.

I think BT made a mistake with the advertising, as the £349 machine has a smaller HDD than the £329 machine, so the the £329 probably should only be a 3GHz machine.

It may arrive in 6mths time if your lucky then it will be full of holes so wait another 4mths after initial release and its easy to upgrade a PC for Vista, thats if anyone buys it.

For peeps looking to upgrade to Vista in the future heres what Microsoft says your PC must have

What is a Windows Vista Capable PC?

    From Microsoft:

A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least:

    1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor1.
    1 GB of system memory.
A graphics processor that runs Windows Aero2.
    128 MB of graphics memory.
40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
    DVD-ROM Drive3.
    Audio output capability.
    Internet access capability.

This was only released by Microsoft last week so they might change the're mind!!! as they usual do! lol.

Apparently, Vista which was originally due out in 2004 is now being released in Feb 07 for the home user and december 06 for the corporate companies.

As Quincy says, wait to see what issues other people have before buying it, anyone who rushes into buying Vista is defo a fool lol.

Nout to do with this thread but a lot of peeps are gonna be watching this thread and wondering if these PC's are going to be upgradeable to Vista. The £229 and upwards ones are going to be ok , the £129 ones......well if Vista will install on them its gonna be painfully slow!

I ordered one of the £229 5100's (Quicklinx 42VMWS) from Dab's on Sunday, when availability was listed as '1-2 days', which changed to 'out of stock' shortly afterwards.

I received a notice of delivery email late last night and it should show up today. So even if it listed as out of stock it still seems worthwhile placing an order.

I also ordered one of the £229 5100's (Quicklinx 42VMWS) from Dab's when availability was listed as '1-2 days' (Sat), which changed to 'out of stock' shortly afterwards.

No email though, and my order is showing online as 'awaiting stock/none in stock'. Does anyone have any idea as to whether this is likely to be re-stocked, or is it just a case of bad luck?

My order is showing the same message online as yours but I ordered mine on Sunday (Quicklinx 42V7WS) when it also said availability in 1-2 days. I hope we do still get them.

I ummed and aaahed about getting one as my Win 98SE PC still works perfectly well for what I need. I think I talked myself into it and I think I will be disappointed if I don't get one now.

Presumably you mean 3.0GHz without the plus? They definitely did make one of those cos that's what's in my current 5100.

Does anyone who has received the £329 machine know what video card is in there? Is it the X600 with hypermemory, is it an 7300LE, or a full 256MB card like a 6800GS??

Likewise! Just realised that mine is the 42V7WS too (wrong in my original post). Hmm, guess we'll just have to sit and wait!

Am almost tempted by the DELL HIGH END DESKTOP DIMENSION 5100 With Microsoft Works Suite at £349.99 on the BT site but can't work out what the actual spec of the machine is as the description and the specification are different!

description says 512MB RAM (spec says 1024MB RAM)
description says 160GB Hard drive (spec says 200GB)
description says Graphics card with at least 128MB V RAM (spec says least 256MB V RAM)

Also it has a load of software on it I'll never use and is a hundred and thirty quid more! Arrrgh!

Is an extra 512MB RAM, a 256MB Graphics card (as opposed to 128MB) and 3.4 GHz processor (as opposed to 2.66 GHz) worth the extra £130? Anybody? :)

I have just received the dabs pentium 4 at £229 , same order code as SMJ , its a dell dimension 5150 , one dvd drive , no media reader . But I have no paperwork to indicate service contract . On the outside of the cardboard box its says 02 of 20 , but inside , even on the despatch note etc nothing . So does that mean its only covered by the standard return to base dabs one year warranty ?

    Thanks

I posted this link earlier... but here it is again.

Stick in your Service Tag number (found on the top of your base unit) and find out what the Dell warranty is. No doubt there will be a 12 month warranty through Dabs/BT but if the Dell warranty is indeed valid then it is much better as it seems to be next business day service for almost 3 years (at least on mine anyway). If in doubt give DELL a ring - I haven't got round to it yet.

I thought so although I'm having second thoughts. Processor is much better, but the graphics card probably won't be worth it if it's an X600 as I suspect it will be.
If you're into processor intense applications like video editing and some games the processor is worth that bit more and you should get the £329 one.
If it's for general use then the £229 is definitely the best option.
If you want intense 3D gaming I would buy the £229 one and stick in a 7600GT graphics card for £130 instead.
