The 5100 is based on the same layout and case design as the 3100 (I have both) because it has a PCI-e graphics card slot, which means you can upgrade it. Even if you choose not to your machine will hold its value longer.
Besides - the 5100 is silver/white whereas the 3100 is black/silver and I think the 5100 looks nicer.

The 5100 also has four memory slots so even if it comes with 2x256MB you should be able to add two more chips to bring it up to 1GB. I've ordered the higher up model which comes with 1GB and I plan to take one of the 512MB chips out of my current 5100 to add into it, giving me 1.5GB and still have a spare slot. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
I think you'll need to keep the memory in matching pairs.0

Still a good deal at DABS I think if you go for the £249 processor .... screens 17 inch for £107. Pentium 4 for £249 and delivery much cheaper than BT...0

zackkilmer wrote:Thanks Searcher2 . The reviews I've seen of the 5100 are on the whole very good , and these were for , at the time , considerably more expensive . The lack of media card reader / ps2 ports , parallel ports , OS disk and software are fairly minor quibbles at this price . It also very upgradeable and for my own usuage i.e mp3 , pictures , office , web creation it should do the trick
Thanks again for taking the time to reply to my mailsThe atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.0 -
For me it is essential to have a 10/100 ethernet port - for those who have received one of these boxes does it have a network port?0
