Are you sure about this? When I rang up Crucial for memory for my 5100 they said I would have to have memory in pairs for it. I have just looked on the Dell forums and the first post I found said "the 5100 requires MATCHING sticks of memory to maintain dual channeling"

    Further to that another Q&A

    Q : I have 256X2 in slots #1 & #2 (from factory) and 1GBX1(added) in slot # 3 DDR2 SDRAM. How badly am I reducing my system performance?

    A : About 30%.

So - I would say YES you do really need to install in matched pairs!!

Does anyone know what the Dabs "Not in Stock" message means ? Will the order be ingonred, rejected, or queued for stock and what is the likelihood of further stock coming in ?

Ordered one of the 3.4ghz ones from BT. As it suggests in the description that it will be a 5150 does anyone know if the power supply has a PCI-E power connector on it?
I will probably upgrade the graphics card asap as it's likely to be the ATI X600 which is not great. Just want to know if i need to order a converter for a standard 4 pin power lead or if there is one already. Iv'e tried a google but can't get a confimation.

Has anyone upgraded a 5150 graphics wise. Would like to know if there is a power limit.

    Cheers.

The PSU in my 5150 is rated at 305W...but according to Dell tech guys it's nearer 400W.

    No PCI-E power connector.

As for upgrades, well I've heard of someone putting in a x850XT by modding the backplate - double width card - the 5150 only accepts a single width card.

Remember though, the CPU draws different power levels depending on the model/speed.

As for power calculations, here's a link you may find useful:

There is a bit of a discussion about graphics cards for the 5150 here...

But I would think if you had a look at Dell Forums you will find more info... and you can even ask your own questions! I find the forum very useful... personally I am not that into graphics though as I am not a gamer.

I thought all 5100's and 5150's were dual channel.... not that I pretend to know what it all means - but just that I thought you really should buy memory for them in pairs.
