Getting out of my comfort zone

Popping back - never got to eat tea; had phone call from Mum, really upset as her sister has taken a turn for the worse and been given the last rites ( is that meant to be in capitals?), so have just left Mum sat waiting for a phone call. Nothing I can do to help her, and didn't really know this particular auntie very well, but feel helpless.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Hi Gill
Sorry to hear about your auntie, that's sad for your Mum, especially as she's not been well herself.
I know what you mean about sitting by the fire - I've been like that all week! Think I'm in hibernation mode.0 -
morning,
I'm guessing that mum didn't sleep well last night, but don't know yet about auntie. It also sort of scuppers plans a bit as Mum and her sisters had planned a special lunch next week because of it being Mum's 75th Birthday, but that will be on hold.
I'm hoping that some of my invoices start to clear soon, so that I can work out what my actual money is. I've been getting paid from the 'old' job, but that isn't quite enough to live on- well its only 2 days work - and using the surplus in the business account for the hotel and food while I'm away. So I need to replenish the business account, and start to work out how much I can throw at the final push to debt freedom.
I *think* I should have a fairly decent amount surplus each week, but its hard to work out as I've just made a guess about tax liability etc.
macgirl - yes, definitely in hibernate mode. I love my rocking chair, but am resisting it at the moment as it conjures up the wrong image

Oh, this is bad news, I'm so sorry to hear about your auntie. You're strong, but it sounds like you really have a lot on your plate, especially in relation to your mum, do take care of yourself (from one who knows what happens when you *dont'* take care
)

Auntie passed away yesterday, finding it really difficult to deal with Mum as her reaction at the moment is blank. She doesn't quite know how to feel about the loss of a sister who she never got on with. It will hit her at some point, its just a case of being around when it does. Her breathing is really bad at the moment and she's using her spray thing more than I would like.
Spent most of last night doing my share of the ringing round. In a family the size of Mum's it has to be split up. Mum was one of 13, she has 2 younger brothers left; one in Australia, one in Liverpool and until yesterday all her sisters were still alive.
I'm also really hungry as was at mum's until after 10 last night so only ate toast when I got in.
Managed to do food shopping, kept it to £40.05, and don't think I need any more shopping, but will have to get stuff in for DS as he's been working since Wednesday night and won't finish until Thursday, so he'll be too tired to cook while I'm away.
Back off to Mum's in a bit, she'll probably want to go and see some of her family tomorrow, so that's my day sorted. Also its her 75th birthday on Tuesday, so had planned to take her out for lunch tomorrow, not sure if she'll want to go.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Oh Gill, how sad .... the not getting on with a sister who's passed away, I mean, especially with it being near her own birthday, and she sounds like she's suffering too.
How are you with it all? Were you close to your auntie?
And of course in the middle of it all, you still need to make sure there's food in the house - hope you can really stoke yourself up tonight.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Sorry to hear the news Gill - must be difficult for your Mum to come to terms with her feelings - mixed emotions I am sure.
Don't forget to take care of yourself - you have a busy schedule at the moment and you need to look after yourself - take heed of KC

I'm sorry to hear that too. Even if we don't get on with our siblings as adults, there were probably happier times from childhood, which I'm sure will make her reflective.
Hope you can still go out, it sounds like you both need a boost. Get in your rocking chair with a nice warm blanket and don't worry about what image it conjures up (horror story for mejust kidding)
Take care xx0 -
Thanks folks
have just taken some curry round to Mum's - so she can always heat that up, she needs to eat as she's diabetic as well as her heart problems. Was very :money:bought a whole chicken, which was reduced for quick sale, so cooked it, put jacket spuds in at the same time, have made curry out of some with a load of veg and have the rest on for stock.
Mum and her sister never got on when they were young, and have never kept in touch, but she is close to her other sisters. In a family the size of ours ( I have over 50 cousins) its hard to be close to all of them but in answer to your question KC, I wasn't close to the auntie, given the above, but am friendly with one of her daughter in laws, and worked for many years with one of her daughters.
Tonight am going to do absolutely nothing, don't know what tomorrow will bring.
Oh and the other thing, Mum's family are Irish Catholics so will really go to town on the funeral arrangements, so someone will have to keep taking Mum up there, and it won't be me, as I won't be here. Last night my sister was quite cutting about the fact that Mum had rung me first, but its about time she did her share. Sorry, that sounded a bit like a rant.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Blimey, your family sounds like mine! My Dad is one of 14 too (Irish Catholics) and I have well over 50 cousins.
In fact, I'm in Liverpool next Saturday night for a family party so will give you a wave.
Nice work on the multi-batch cooking - you're an inspiration.0
