I'm going to write this down here as I will probably get shot down in flames if I put it anywhere else, but...

While loving the positivity and collaboration around the kits etc. on MemoryGirls thread, I am feeling a bit uncomfortable with the way its going at the moment, so am going to back off from it.

Part of it is because it had become about supporting peoples businesses; I am happy to help people on here by using the skills that I have, and give moral support, but there is something that just doesn't sit right with me that I just can't put my finger on what it is.

Rant over, back to the ironing.

I have to say, I agree. To be honest, the new thread has moved at a bit of a pace, so it's been hard for me to keep up. But also, it seems to have lost something and gained something else....
I don't recognise the original essence of the thread, so while I still dip in, it's kind of left me behind too.

Hiya! A use it up weekend - I thoroughly agree, I'm having a use it up year - I won't buy anything unless I'm going to use it right now, and I'm trying to re-use all sorts of things I have in the house.

Okay, as I just wrote on my thread, I've just got back home and my brain has completely stopped working ... I didn't get this bit in your post last night: "Thinking about things on KC's thread about the pensions etc. and my current overpayments, mean that in effect my mortgage payments can be saved for a number of years as I won't be able to get my pension when I expected to. I may still be able to get my work pension and lump sum though." Do you mean ... no, I don't know what you mean. I can tell that mortgage payments and overpayments, and the pensions you have, are interacting, but thats about it. I'm too dozy right now to even ask the right question! Oh dear :rotfl: sorry!

EDIT - obviously, since I can't think properly, I don't have any coherent response to what you're writing about the matrix .... I think for me, tho, its definitely pick and choose on there. I love the positivity, I like the idea that though I've really cut back on charity donations I can *do* something minimal to help, like collecting donations for instance. But, no, I'm not going to buy something I wouldn't have bought anyway, simply to help someone's business. I asked for feedback on there about those green issues, and I feel thats okay, and I'd give anybody else any feedback they wanted where I had something to say. Is it any clearer for you since you've posted? Or you, macgirl?

Hi gilly, just wanted to pop on and let you know I'm still reading.

Glad to hear things are going well with work and that you are a bit more comfortable with money. :j

I think that's perfectly alright KC, it should be a forum for sharing ideas and giving advice to others :)

I started reading MG's diary right before Mr Big contacted her. I loved her "Make Do and Mend" title and mentality and her infectious positivity. I'm so excited for her that through all the hardship, someone has offered her a hand to lead her out of the tunnel and into the bright light where she belongs.

I like the vibe of Mr Big's challenges too (though I lost momentum when moving house became more important), but the new thread seems to have a different tone, I don't know why, but it doesn't resonate with me the way the first thread did. Perhaps it's because I was so caught up in moving, that it moved too fast and I lost track...

That's not a criticism, I think it's great that so many are inspired and it's taken on a life of it's own, it's just that I can't relate to it now.

It *is* different now, undoubtedly. And thank you for your feedback above - I love that you highlighted the bit of my post you were referring to in green. Very subtle! As for the rest of what I was thinking about the matrix itself, once again, I can't find the words.... I'll try again another day.

    :rotfl:sorry KC, I wasn't very clear in my head about this myself, but it was se999 who was writing about people in their 50's being the ones who missed out, so essentially;
because my mortgage is relatively new it was due to be finished in 2024, the year I am 65, but because of the overpayments it will finish sooner, maybe before I'm 60. I originally could have got my work pension at 60 so the lump some would've paid off what remained of the mortgage. As I'm not sure whether I can get my work pension then or not, and the chances are I'll have to keep working for another 6 years, I can save the mortgage payments for 6 years and then get the lump sum which won't have to be used for the mortgage.

    I think thats it.

    sorry you're a bit confuddled.

I don't know what it is, MG's thread is moving as fast as the other one, and you're right, I love the spirit of collaboration; everyone told me to dip in and out and to pick the bits that worked, but something just isn't gelling for me and I feel a bit uncomfortable with it. It has been an inspiration and definitely gave me a focus, but ......

like you KC, I am happy to give moral support and to give help to people if I can, but .....

maybe it has become more about the businesses and the money rather than the support.

sashy :wave:hello - nice to see you, I know you're busy with shifts etc.

I've done shopping, total of £31 spent on groceries, £14.99 on a throw in Linens Direct, so going to make some cushions.

I was thinking about shopping online for groceries, but not sure if I can make it work for me, as I currently go to 6 different shops on a Saturday morning. But when I am working away for part of the week, not sure I want to spend Saturday morning trolling round doing grocery shopping. Need to think about whether what I save by going to different shops is worth the hassle. (it's not lots of hassle, as 4 of them are in a shopping precinct thing, and the other 2 are local butcher and greengrocer, so would still shop there anyway)

Sorry for the downer folks :(

For what it's worth, I use Sainsbo's for online shopping and would recommend it. Granted not every week, I'm getting a delivery next week as we're having people over for Halloween.

Last night I booked it for Thursday evening - spend over £100 for free deliver - then I have until Wednesday evening to make any changes if I need to.
I like that I can buy items in bulk, loo roll etc, make sure I've got all ingredients I need and spend time looking through the offers.

In between, I nip to Asda, as there's one near work and go to the local butchers a couple of times a month. For me, it's the convenience I love. After working all week, the last thing I want to do is drag 2 small "can I have's" round a supermarket!

Hope you got all the ironing done. DH is doing mine as we speak - while I lie in my sick bed, watching Come Dine With Me :p

I ended up using delivery from an online shop every month, like macgirl - bulky or heavy stuff, thats a pain to carry. When I had my two cats, I got deliveries once a week, cos of the cat food and the litter tray, but without them, once a month was fine - and you're right about your options - pay a bit extra to have one delivery and get it over with or maybe manage to spend over their free delivery limit. Its often been worth it to me to get the delivery.

Thanks for the explanation on the repayments thing! Very clear now :)

As far as MG's thread is concerned ... I was a bit surprised at all the credit union stuff, that hadn't happened last time I went offline.

    Morning

I am watching a demonstration of 'follow the leader' which is the Korean Grand Prix. I know lots of people think F1 is like that anyway, but its normally better than this.

Will have a think about the online shopping, thanks for the input mac and KC.
Currently I go to Iceland for some stuff, Morrisons, Asda and Wilkinsons or Home and Bargain. Wilkinsons is only for drinks for DS, they are so much cheaper. Maybe think about doing most of the shopping from one place, as there is an Iceland and a wilko's near work so I could always pick up a few bits at lunchtime, so long as I was disciplined enough.

I would probably still do my greengrocer and butchers shopping locally, as I like the quality and the fact I can buy very small amounts.

Got a lot of the ironing done, but got a bit bored.
