This is true ... but it also helps when your dad is Chancellor of the Exchequer... mind you, she used to write for The Sunday Times, and I always thought the name was a pseudonym before I knew who she was - that woman's got sense, even if she tries to hide it nowadays.

She also does a lot for cancer charities as her first husband (John Diamond) died of cancer, and I think her mother did too. I remember reading his articles when he tried to be upbeat about his fight with the disease. If you watch some of her early programmes he is there in the background, but by then he couldn't speak.

As you can see I've skived off for the afternoon. Was originally taking time out to meet up with KC, but as she isn't well enough to come up north, was going to cancel; then decided I deserved some time off.
So I'm going to make some cards this afternoon, with one eye on Sky news for the sale of Liverpool.

Good news, I finally got enough Morrisons Miles for a £5 voucher, so if they've got any of their 50p deals on shopping will be cheaper this weekend.

AND...... have spoken to current boss, who has asked if there is any possibility of me still doing some work for them as there is some stuff that needs doing but is new. Have said I will think about it. It's not full time, just managing processes etc. so if we can agree a good hourly rate, then it will fit in fine with new job.

Aww, shame you two couldn't get to meet up, another time perhaps. Gill are you going to Memorygirl's Leeds event? I'm trying to see if I can arrange it.

Yes, I did see the programmes about John Diamond and his battle with throat cancer, terribly sad. I think Nigella lost her Mother and Sister before that too, awful.

Good news about the afternoon off and the potential other work. It's all coming good for you :)

I work with a chap from Anfield, so he gets it in the air day and night - poor lad. Sounds like it'll be sold today. My DH (although a London boy) is a big Liverpool fan, being a child of the 70's, so we'll be watching with interest.

Cautiously optimistic is the best way to describe feelings about the new owners, but at least we aren't in Administration and losing 9 points. Actions after all speak louder than words.

I was thinking about going to the Leeds thing, maybe not to the session, because I thought that was going to be for 'students', but maybe just go anyway. Leeds isn't *that* far away.

    Definitely, for my part!

Leeds is pretty close to Liverpool on the train - I went to Leeds from Formby one day, to see a science fiction mate, and even tho you have to change trains at Manchester (with a looooong trek between platforms) its pretty good. And lovely scenery.

I feel really grown up :p I am over 50 and today .....

I bought an iron for the very first time in my life :D Mine is now not heating up enough so I bought one, not even a cheapo smart price one, but a proper make.

My first iron was bought for me by my Nan as a housewarming present, along with an ironing board, washing basket and a carpet sweeper! After that, my mum has always given me her old one,as she always buys good and replaces before they break. So I've never bought one.

Today I've done the flylady approach to housework, rather than my normal throw myself at it and then get tired, so have done 20 minute bursts. Then stopped to sort computer out, DS gave me his old one, but forgot to tell me he'd cannibalised it for parts, so have been swapping bits from one computer to another.

All this with one eye on the telly watching Kelly's Heroes -class film!
DS came down to ask a question and ended up watching it, his friend arrived and had never seen it. Nor had he ever watched Where Eagles Dare, any of the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns, or Blazing Saddles. DS was thoroughly shocked, as he was brought up on them. Funny what you take for granted that people have seen. Oh yes, and he's never seen the 2 ronnies 'Four Candles' sketch.

None of this is money saving of course, except for the hand down computer.

Really really tired, and about to go back to bed for an hour.

    Yesterdays shopping was:
£4.78 wilkinsons - £3 of this for drinks for DS so he pays for it, and the rest on Christmas stuff, budgeted for.
    £5 Iceland
£20.65 Morrisons, real cost £15.65 as had voucher

so all in all a cheap weekend.

Had a bad nights sleep, woke up every 40 minutes or so, feeling queasy. Then had to pick DS up from work at half seven as trains not running, so all in all, not the best start.

That really *doesn't* sound a good start to the day - queasy, too? Hope another hour in bed puts that to rights.
