Getting out of my comfort zone

  • Morning

another early ish day today, yesterday was mega. Left the house just after 7, stuck in traffic on the dreaded bridge, then more traffic on motorway slip. Had to go to another office to support the staff there in the new system, intended to be there a few hours; no such luck! At 12, the Manager said would I be available for a meeting at 1.30 to review progress, so no point going back, but my dinner was in the fridge back at base. Absolutely starving, felt like the longest day, and still had work to do at home.

Off to get hair dried and out again. Have checked online banking and need to work out what spare money I have - doesn't that sound good!

  • The fact that I am on here typing at 7 is testament to the fact that today was an easier day, mainly because all the hard work had already been done.

Have just had a phone call from an agency, asking me to go for interview next week. Really good contract, but you never know with agencies, they may have oversold my skills. However, I do know people in the industry who are now working for themselves so thinking seriously about it.

Sounds like a few options have opened up! As for the agency over-selling your skills?

I don't think so, so you?! ;) You're on the up - go with it x
  • Don't you just hate it when you type something and then accidentally press some button or other and lose everything.....

Grrrrr. Off for a toddle round the diaries, back later.

Yes I do hate it! This is an earlier time for you to be back home, so I'm thinking that at least thats good .... what about the interview, have you decided? And how can you *know* they've oversold your skills? The very least they should do is emphasize the good points and the congruent points.........

It's happened to me before, the area I work in is quite specialised, so I listed things I had done in the past and got an interview. When I got there, they wanted someone to develop systems from scratch and write the software. The agency hadn't told me what they were after, and hadn't really understood what my skills meant. Hopefully this is different, as my ex boss actually put my name forward.

I've decided to go to the interview, but have a HUGE list of questions to make sure I am right for the role. They are paying travel expenses too, so that is good. Its one heck of a commute, makes this one look like nothing at all. May have to consider B&B etc. BUT.....its a really good career move.

    Off to start tea.
