My Liverpool rellies left early yesterday as they were worried about the impending snow - sounds like they did the right thing.

You sound quite chilled, hope it's the start of a nice restful period. The good thing about the snow is that you have to take your time getting around, which reduces stress abit (in one way at least :o)

    Have a good day x

Yes, it feels nice and peaceful here! Though the image of you slogging to the local shops in three inches of snow and back with heavy bags, is not so peaceful - hope it wasn't too bad. I've just been on the phone with my brother, he's out in central Lancashire, totally snowed in right now. I hope it isn't too bad for you with the toing and froing that you *do* have to do.
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Had quite a nice walk to the shops, most of the snow was fresh so quite crunchy underfoot, not slippy at all. Just got the basics, its not as if there's nothing in the freezer. BIL did Mum's shopping for her, so that was good. He is confident driving in poor conditions, as he drives for a living.

Will leave main shop until Wednesday or Thursday, depends on the weather really. Have also looked into the possibility of getting train to Shropshire on Monday, just in case.

Still haven't done all my Christmas shopping, but the things I need to get aren't likely to be a problem. Books for sister, booze for nephews etc. Tonight I will organise the sweet jars etc. and get them wrapped, also need to print out the humbug paper.

Tomorrow is definitely a chilling day, can't think what I need to do except the usual tidying up, so may wrap some pressies as the tree will be finished by then.

Off to see whats going on and then a glass of vino.

  • Went shopping yesterday as decided to get some 'Christmas' type stuff, while the roads weren't too bad. Used the money in the slummy jar, £44.97 so quite pleased about that. Got things like crisps, etc. fizzy drinks, and nibble type things.

Today was *different*; roads like sheet glass, so not happy driving, managed to get to the bottom of the road, and the main road wasn't marvellous either. Took it easy, but as I got near Runcorn, the traffic started to build up, it doesn't take much. So I turned round and went home, deciding that only 10 miles of my journey was motorway, no idea what the roads in Wales were like and I'd see if the trains were running. They were, so repacked my bag. Funny all the stuff I normally cart round with me, and I managed to take just a sports bag, and don't think I'm missing anything.

I knew the time of the train, but trainline doesn't tell you the ultimate destination of the train you are getting, so when I got to Crewe had to work it out by a process of elimination.

I am soo glad I took the train though, its snowing again here, on top of ice, so will be quite dangerous. And I'm not going out for anything to eat. Have my cuppa soup, and some chocolate, and my crochet -god I sound like my Nan.

    Rambling, going now.

  • It's snowing again, not sure if I'm glad or not, but I'm glad I'm not in the car, as looking at the Met Office website, it looks grim round Oswestry which is my way home.

Christmas, still don't know where we're going to be, whether sister can stop being uber organised and fit it all in, so have been having a think.

I *know* I haven't bought stuff, I haven't had the normal time to prepare, the house is a tip, there are presents missing, and we can't work out how to get DS and nephew from work, and eat and get mum home etc. so I may end up cooking dinner for just me and Mum, :undecidedBUT...

I don't care enough, so whatever happens will happen.

    I think I need to cheer up a bit:o

You sound like me! You know what, I'm going to watch Time Team and open a bottle of wine - I'm sure the herbalist would advise against the wine, but I don't care any more! I'd like a bit of pleasure - I only drink one glass, so there, Ms Herbalist!

I love the bit near the end of your post:
"I don't care enough, so whatever happens will happen."

Yay! To not-caring being positive in these days of uber control! I like your yesterday's post as well - thats me (and my mum) - my nan was quite different though, even in her sixties she was going out dancing in her blue satin dress :)

Lets do what makes us happy - we both work hard for our families - you more regularly than me, actually - so lets put some of our own needs first.

Hope you stay warm and safe during that journey back - your area is due for a heavy snowfall tonight.

  • Hi KC, I'm sat here watching Top Gear with one of those little bottles of wine. My Mum was out most nights in her sixties, and in her early seventies had a better social life than me.
I'm going to chill about it now. Not going to stress about it.

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly with that. You DO put yourself out for everyone and have all year, so whatever happens this year, you should put your needs first.

We all put too much stress on ourselves and surely Christmas should be about a bit of down time, relaxing and being kind to yourself :)

Sounds good to me, very good. I saw that Top Gear very very briefly - that was a new one, wasn't it - I'll be downloading that tomorrow.

    Sleep well all.
