    Hi naughtyneighbour,

I usually wrap it in a clean tea towel. There's an earlier thread with lots of advice on storing bread so I've added your thread to it to keep the the suggestions together.

I tend to wrap it in greaseproof paper, then keep in a bread-tin. Good for a couple of days - and, to be honest, it doesn't normally last longer than that in the house anyway.... :)

Never keep bread in the fridge - it stales quickest at fridge temperatures.

Bread's best kept at room temperature or frozen.

Hi I make my bread in a bread maker and I love it, the smell of the bread cooking is better than any air freshener. I live alone and was wondering if anyone has any tips of how to store it to keep it fresh. thanks

I bought a breadmaker a few weeks ago and have noticed how quickly it starts to go stale.

For instance, I made a loaf last night and cut some off to make sandwiches for today. I left them in the fridge in a sandwich bag - could this be making the bread a bit dry?

    Hi Claire,

I have a bread bag from Lakeland and keep it out of the fridge as I think the fridge makes it go hard more quickly. There are more ideas on these threads:

how to keep HM bread fresh

Where to keep all this home made bread ...

    Fresh Bread bags?

I'll add your thread to the first link later.

  • I slice mine (Cookworks food slicer from Argos), bag it, freeze it then take out slices as & when required.

I do the same as savingforoz - slice and freeze. That way, there's
no waste and the bread tastes lovely and fresh

I put mine in a poly bag, clip it shut and keep it in the bread bin. It stays fresh for three days or so. The more oil or fat in a recipe there is, the more resistant it is to drying out. So if you want bread to last choose a recipie with fat in it.

  • I know this has probably been asked before, but i am worse than useless with using the search function on these boards.
Am having a go at Nigel Slater's simple hand made rustic loaf tonight (in the oven as i type) The last time i tried a recipe off of here the rolls were gorgeous when they first came out of the oven but a night in the bread bin made them more like curling stones:eek:.
So through the waffling, what is the best way to store hm bread, does it need to be put in an airtight container etc ? any help appreciated xx
