Know what you mean about frozen bread not being as good as sandwiches - but maybe there's a knack to freezing it that we're both missing?
I've started making HM bread, this is a good white sandwich bread recipe, tastes similar to Hovis/Kingsmill etc.

Perhaps in time I should bake my own bread again, I wasn't bad at doing so and found it easy. I have all the equipment needed and the ingredients but when I can get some loaves reduced or make a loaf last a week, I am not really saving money. Though HM is probably nicer.I separate my sliced bread up to four slices at a time and freeze and only use what I have out of the freezer.I live alone so four at a time is more than enough for me
If I finally get some space in the freezer perhaps I could do something similar. Or half a loaf so I use have in "Real" time but have some to fall back on..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Wow thanks everyone for so many replies so quickly! I'm impressed as always with people on this site.
OK freezing seems to be the most popular and we do freeze some but I really can tell the difference between frozen and not as sandwiches. Perhaps Janey is right and I'm not doing it correctly although I've tried just bunging the bag in the freezer as is (technical!) or splitting into x number of slices in freezer bags and it's always the same. So I'll still freeze half a loaf for toast as that's ok.
I'm liking the bread bag idea Suburbanwifey. Might invest in one of those. But before I do, I actually have a new drawstring bag I brought home from work (a bit like one of those drawstring pump bags but plastic lined) and a canvas bag for life and I'm wondering if either of those might work until I can buy one. Anything is going to be better than what happens at the moment
Thanks everyone, food for thought. Keep em coming...

And I did just read it again to see those who keep it out of the freezer seem to put it in a cupboard. Maybe it's light as well as heat...hmm0

We always keeps ours in the fridge and will last probably up to a week there. Usually have a spare loaf in the freezer which we put in the fridge to defrost before eating.0

You could be right, I have just started on a loaf dated September 11th kept in a cupboard and it isn't stale and no sign of mould(I also managed to buy it reduced from £1 to 29p)so even if it did not last more than a few days that's not too much to lose moneywise."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy.
