storing homemade bread

Hi everyone. I'm having a problem with bread at the moment and I wondered if anyone has any ideas. There is just the two of us and while we're very good at shopping wisely and minimising waste generally, we struggle with bread as it just seems to go mouldy in no time. Our kitchen is very warm and we're wondering if that's not helping but even so, it's got much worse lately and we haven't done anything different.
We sometimes make our own brown bread but the problem comes from white sliced which we buy. We've tried everything from storing it in the plastic bag it comes in to storing it in a special lock n lock 'bread container with special base tray' that we have (and that was even worse). We do freeze some slices when we know we aren't going to eat it but I need an alternative to freezing as I really don't like frozen bread as sandwiches, only as toast.
So any ideas? Airtight or not? Somewhere dark and cool? In the plastic or out of it? What works for you?
(By the way, we don't seem to have a problem with home made bread as we usually make and use that in 2 days but it does seem to keep better anyway):j
Thanks

We freeze it too. I don't eat it, and the kids aren't really fans of sandwiches, so it's just for toast here. A loaf can last us 2-3 weeks.Bossymoo

I don't think supermarket bread keeps as well these days, as we have seen this problem too, and like you, have tried everything. I freeze mine now or make HM which keeps a while.0

We freeze half a loaf at a time and keep the other half in the bread bin. It dosn't stop it going mouldy all the time, so I do know what you mean.
I can't think of anything else to try apart from freezing it, although I did note that you said you didn't like it once its defrosted. I can never tell the difference. I freeze fruit loaf as well in two slice portions, I have this for tea break at work.0 -
I make my own bread in a Panasonic bread maker and I store it in this that I bought from Amazon. It keeps it fresh and soft for days and days, wouldn't be without it and it only cost 4 pound off - see it here0

We have a big square tupperware type box in the cupboard, we either use loads of bread or none and often have bread to feed the ducks with the little ones. We do keep some in the freezer for emergencies.;)0

Mot of the bread I buy can take a week to get through, no room in the freezer but it doesn't seem to go stale, rarely gets mould and is just in a cupboard in the kitchen but I quite like the idea of the Bread Bag...may have to get one...I think here Bread Buns are more likely to be affected.

Know what you mean about frozen bread not being as good as sandwiches - but maybe there's a knack to freezing it that we're both missing?
I've started making HM bread, this is a good white sandwich bread recipe, tastes similar to Hovis/Kingsmill etc.

I separate my sliced bread up to four slices at a time and freeze and only use what I have out of the freezer.I live alone so four at a time is more than enough for me0
