they've sent me some (non-bio) washing powder which I will try on school shirts tomorrow and also suggested I did a 95 degree wash to check the water heater was working properly which it was. I'm at work now but will check if the rods (?) mentioned above have been removed. The were helpful at Miele but sounded dumbfounded and I'm not surprised. thanks

i agree, 2hr wash, bloody hell.
not much money saving there then.

i would goto comet and ask for a replacement if i were you. state not fit for purpose.

2hrs for a cotton wash aint unusual for most modern machines. some do have quick wash options but only for small lightly soiled loads.
why a longer cycle? energy efficiency, believe it or not. they use less water these days, energy is saved by having to heat up less water. the cycle length is increased to compensate....apparently most energy used by a washer is to heat the water whilst the drum movement uses very little.

I got a new washing machine last year (not a Miele) and had some problems with the quality of the wash until I found out that I had to put the detergent in a little bag inside the machine (not in the drawer as previously) and I needed to arrange it inside the machine as a balanced load.

unfortunately the delivery rods have been removed so that's another possibility out. I washed a load of mucky teatowels last night from work on a 60 degree cotton wash and they'vecome out dirty. I'm going to ask for a replacement but don't know if that should be via comet or miele - I've returned the guarantee to miele.

Its very strange! Go back to Miele customer services, its far better that one of their engineers comes out to you and sees what is happening.

If you have any trouble then let me know and I will contact them on your behalf, but they should be fine and send an engineer no problem.

Your contract is with Comet, so it's best to go back to them first of all. I'd explain to them that you've been talking to Miele about the problem and give them any names or reference numbers you might have. It's Comet's job to supply you with a new machne, but it all depends if they're having a good or bad customer service day

This is true - but I think there is still a small possibilty that something is wrong with the installation, so it is much better that a Miele engineer comes out to check everything and diagnose the fault or installation problem on site rather than do an exchange without this knowledge, because if it was and installation problem then same thing would happen on the replacement whether a Miele or not.

I hope the problem is now sorted?
  • They just don't make them like they used to! I too had a faithfull, wonderful Zanussi for 16 years that never failed to clean all the worst stains. My job means that i wash more loads in a week than many large households.
I so wish I had paid whatever it took to have that old machine repaired because my new AEG Electrolux is just not up to the job...longer programme but rairly cleans properly and doesn't rinse the debris away ( they all have these self cleaning filters now....bullsh++it )
I have a friend who has a Miele and says it ruins her family's clothes, very harsh but STILL DOES NOT CLEAN WELL!!
    Rant over
