This might sound daft but have you checked that the drum restraining bolts have been removed from the machine?

The machine will still work with them in but will be noisy and the clothes will be dirty.
They are in the back and look like 2 large screw heads, when you undo them a long rod will pull out of the back of the machine, i`ve had one delivered with the bolts in and unwittingly connected it up and used it, if you find that these are still in place it may be worth checking underneath the lid too to see if a big polystyrene block is there which needs removing.

The delivery guys used to remove these on the lorry before bringing the machine to the door but they do get forgotten sometimes.

Pressed send a bit early. As I was saying I think I recommended this machine to you so sorry it's not worked out so far.

The machine should not be noisy, mine isn't, in fact it's much quieter than my dishwasher which is enclosed behind a unit door. There are little feet on the bottom of the machine, have these both been adjusted to the same level? Maybe your floor is not flat...just a thought as I had a wedge under my older machine to stop it dancing around the place, with the Miele I just have set the feet to different heights and it works a treat.

The not cleaning I don't understand, I have had excellent results even on towels used for wiping down dirty hounds and a multitude of other stains. Worth trying another powder, i use Bold 2 in 1 but if you have no joy I would ring Miele again and suggest that they come and have a look-this is not acceptable performance from an expensive machine.

You could also direct them to this thread (maybe a bit naughty!) or at least mention that you are posting on the forum about the issue. I am sure a company with their reputation would work hard to maintain their quality name at the cost of a free visit to you (plus good PR for them).

I, for one, would be very disappointed if they did not take action to sort out your problem

    Hi

There has been a few good suggestions here. Actually if the transit rods are still in the back of the machine then this would explain a lot especially the noise as would the machine not being level and stable, removing the transit rods and the machine being level and stable are both imperative.

You have mentioned using a 40 degree wash but actually you haven't said which cycle you are using and the fabric type. I would assume your stained fabric is cotton, but which cycle are you putting this on, Cotton wash, easy care, or wool?

Have you got a short wash button or an intensive button on the front?
    What detergent are you using?
Are you putting it in the drawer or the drum?
Have you checked the machine is connected properly and are you sure it is connected to the cold water supply and not the hot?

This information should hopefully give a fuller picture of what is happening.

    Thanks

    CK

Probably a daft suggestion but some machines have the prewash and normal slots for detergent reversed - you are definitely putting the detergent in the normal wash slot?

Its such a shame you went to Comet I know
that had this been bought in John Lewis
they would have had the Miele man out to see
you and check and run things through with you.
know this as they had to sends the Bosch
man out to my dishwasher & later for the tumble drier
as we could not make head nor tail of the
    instructions for either.

Me I would ring Miele back ask where the packing
transit rods or brackets are,my mum once bought
an indesit that used to make a terrible racket
until my brother in law pulled it out and discovered
she had not taken off the last transit bracket, said
in the instructions that there were two but she had
the Omege model that came with three.

Get a spirit level is it level at the back and the front ?

    if not the legs adjust

Are you in a soft or hard water area, you may need more
    or less powder.

do you have the pre wash on or off ?

I never use pre wash, could it be that your
powder has all been used up on this ?

I put the powder straight in the drum and never use the
    drawer.

I know there must be a vast difference between
your old machine and the new one nothing to do with
brands but its a different style of washing nowadays
with all the eco friendly cycles on the new machines
it may be that you are finding it all very different.
I know I used to use much higher temps on my
old machine and at first I did find it strange.

I do hope you can find a way to get this to work for you

Wow thanks for all the tips and suggestions. I don't think it can be connected to the hot water as on a 40 degree wash the window was barely warm. I don't have a short or intensive wash option (it's a prestige plus 6) I put my powder (Aeriel non-bio) in the dispenser in the part with the 2 lines marked above it. I used the 60 degree cotton wash for the whites and the 40 degree minimum iron wash for coloureds. I think I used the 40 degree cotton wash for the light coloureds wash. I dont know if the bolts were removed as my OH was with the delivery men I will have a look whenI get home. they removed the packaging while it was on the back of the taillift of the truck but presumably wouldn't have removed them there. they did a quick wash while they were here. I said to my oh it sounded noisy even when washing but thought this might be because there was no clothes in it. don't feel guilty about recommending it - I know everyone swears by them but I must have a dud no-one would accept this from the cheapest make. customer relations at miele said a 60 degree wash for white cottons was correct. I bought it from comet because they had it at the cheapest price.
