So disappointed with my Miele washing machine

Had my prestige plus 6 miele washing machine delivered last Tuesday and just done a 60 degree cotton wash and some of the clothes have come out dirty. One school shirt is just as muddy as when it went it the tea towel looks just the same and the white sheet looks grey. I bought it from Comet. should I take the dirty washing back to them and ask for a refund or replacement machine. I can't see this being a repairable fault it's obviously just a rubbish machine. I use non-biological washing powder by the way but have done so for twenty odd years.

Comet don't have the best reputation for customer service from what I've read on here, so not sure how you'd get on.
Are you sure that the water heated up OK and the powder dissolved alright? With my old Hotpoint, you can tell from feeling the window in the door if the water was hot.
I'm not teaching you to suck eggs, but did you do a mixed colour wash? Just thinking at 60 degrees some colours will run and maybe your white sheet picked up colour. Obviously if a white wash ignore me.
I don't have any school shirts to wash any more :T so not got the same problem, but I've used Daz for years and whenever I had any stains (I used to wash the tablecloths for our restaurant with all sorts of food/drink stains on) I used to add Oxiclean or Vanish, or pre-treat with spray stain remover for some really bad stains.0 -
Id start by checking what the handbook says regarding the cycle you chose. Any quick wash options will give poor cleaning, despite what the manufacturers say. Check the load size for the cycle selected aswell, I have a flash 60 deg on my machine but maximum load says 1.5kg.....thats about 3 items. As prev mentioned, check there is heat...put your hand on the door during the wash phase only....the rinses will be cold. If there is a variable temp control on this one, make sure its set to 60.0

I too am thinking did you not do whites separately.....Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

If your wash was all white items and your dials were all set correctly then I would advise calling the Miele customers services team for further advise. If they think it is faulty I am sure it will get sorted ASAP.0

no it was all whites - some socks with small amount of colour trim - and it was a wash lasting nearly 2 hours. I didn't check the water temperature on that wash by feeling the window but I have with previous washes this week as because this machine is cold fill only unlike my previous one which was hot and cold I wanted to make sure the water was heating up correctly. I did the wash at 60 degrees.0

Just because it's "rubbish" doesn't mean they will just take it back surely?
Overloaded perhaps? - if some items were really mucky the mucky water may not have been able disperse properly, and the hot temperatures actually ends up sealing in the grime - hence the grey look too the bed linen, or yes a small amount of dye from one of the small coloured items has does the damage.
Why the 60C wash? not necessary for hot washes, they do more harm than good if the loads isn't spot on.0 -
Another thought - if I was washing things that were muddy then I would tend to do a rinse and spin first to get the worse of the muck off then add my other items otherwise the whole wash is being done in dirty water. Or I would soak the bad things in a bowl of cold water first. I never use a prewash myself but maybe that too would help.0

thanks for replies I always do 60 degreee when I'm doing whites - it has been recommended for sheets especially for hygiene reasons. when I say muddy it was where my daughter had gone down a dry muddy hill on her bum so it wasn't caked on. I think I'll ring Miele in the morning. I wish I'd bought a cheapy now!0

I'd be guided by the washing instructions, even for whites. If it says 40degrees then a 60degree wash could spoil the fabric.
Obviously if you have specific hygiene reasons for washing sheets at 60 then you've probably bought sheets that are designed for washing at that temperature.
My d-i-l has a Miele and is very happy with it. I think that once you've got to the bottom of this problem (ringing Miele is probably the best thing to do, they might even want to send an engineer out to check if there is a problem) then you'll be glad you bought it rather than a cheapy. I can understand your disappointment, spending that sort of money on a washing machine is a considered purchase with probably lots of research done by you. Hang in there, you should get it sorted and you'll join the happy throng of Miele owners.0 -
I don't have particular hygiene reasons personally (!) but was reading that sheets should be always be washed at a temperature of at least 60 degrees to kill any bed bugs/dust mites etc or anything else that might be lingering. Maybe that's not correct but it just feels right to wash whites at a hot temperature. thanks for advice anyway. ps the machine was definitely not over-loaded0
