A bit of an old thread I know, but that's the joys of Google for you when you search for a problem. :D

My friend has used Effipro on their cats before, both of them developing small sore blisters. One cat has scratched at the blister so much, it has turned into a sore rash at the spot where the Effipro was applied.

Having visited a vet, we are waiting for the rash to go away before we apply the prescribed Frontline Combi. I wish we'd read this thread before though, or we would be applying Advantage instead!

Can anybody recommend some good flea spray that protects the house for some time? Ideally a year or more of protection would be good.

Acclaim or Indorex are both effective household sprays and offer protection all year round.

If my cat had had a bad reaction to Effpro I would not be using Fronline Combi as both contain Fiprinol.

A flea's worst enemy is the vacuum cleaner, so 'tis said! My animals have fleas. (3 cats one dog) I too get bitten from time to time. That's despite using the vacuum cleaner on the the hard floors, and spraying here and there and upholstery and the occasional carpet with R I P Fleas Extra from the vet.

Perhaps I am not diligent enough! I occasionally find one on my person and take great pleasure moistening my finger and thumb and trapping it, then drowning it in a glass of water with a drop of washing up liquid to make it sink. I am usually kind to animals etc. I rescue spiders from the bath and put them in a place of safety. I catch bumble bees who find there way indoors in a glass and put them outside. However I take pleasure in watching a flea drown. I only feel very faintly guilty.

Most fleas found on dogs are cat fleas.

If cats go outside then they could be consistently bringing in fleas despite all your cleaning.

Bought Effipro yesterday as Frontline now not available from usual supplier.

Definitely cheaper but noticed on an old box of Frontline, that the concentration of fipronil is half that of Frontline.
viz Frontline - [small dogs] each pipette contains 134mg of fipronil .
Effipro - [small dogs] each pipette contains 67mg of fibronil.

although oddly enough ......... concentration is identical for large dogs
Frontline - [large dogs] each pipette contains 268mg of fipronil .
Effipro - [large dogs] each pipette contains 268mg of fibronil.

I don't routinely deflea, but was horrified, before Christmas to spot fleas on both dogs, after one had been to the vets.

I bought some Advantage, online, as it is cheaper than Frontline and two days after treatment there was neither sign of fleas nor faeces and none since.
