Got to say that Frontline has always worked in the past so I am tempted to try this rather than go straight for the very expensive POM option.

As you have already stated Effipro hasn't worked for your pets, why would you waste more money trying Frontline (same active ingredient) when your vet has already advised there are issues with fleas becoming immune to it :wall:

  • I've just got some Effipro for our 3 puds as they are still bringing in the lil beasties and they are eating me and DH alive! this is despite the council coming 2 weeks ago to spray the whole house. We comb them daily and always find a mixture of dead and live ones. I've got about 30 bites now at various stages and getting very  off now!

    I hope it works!

  • There's a new brand on the market now called Fiprospot made by CEVA which previous Frontline users might be interested in.

I purchased Fiprospot for my dog and 2 kittens from petmeds not seen any fleas. Fantastic!
  • a spot-on flea treatment. People often claim that they use the products and afterwards their pet is very itchy....take a look at the chemicals and what they do, and how they get into the bloodstream and you'll understand that they are incredibly evil concoctions that quite regularly trigger an allergic reaction in the dog/cat that sparks the scratching - it's not the fact the animal has fleas, more that they are irritated by the chemicals.

The "spray" version of Frontline is water-borne and much safer to use - but I still woudln't use it as we never found it that effective, and then realised it was the cause of the dog scratching.

Personally we use a product made by Barrier Biotech - Natural Flea and Tick spray. Available in quite a few places if you have a bit of a search - last time we bought it it was £3.50 a bottle and a bottle lasts a year for one large dog.

Applied with a groom it makes the dog smell very pleasant (minty, mentholy-type smell) compared to the chemically smell of most spray flea treatments.

We haven't used traditional flea treatments for 10 years. The only time the dog has had sight of a flea was from other animals and when in the waiting room at the vets - and a quick groom and spray down has eradicated them straight away. We've converted a number of people - and we only found out about it purely by chance when the dog's allergies were being diagnosed.

    Hearty recommendation from me!

Oh and ticks REALLY don't like it. Quick spray on and they drop off in a few hours!

    Cheers,
    Dan.

Thanks for the info, Dan. I've decided to give this a try.

Incidentally, in case any one else wants to buy some, I've found my nearest stockists by using the search box on Barrier Biotech's website (sorry, apparently, I can't post a link to it, because I'm new to this forum).

I would also like to try it but hopefully can get it online as nothing for small animals in London!

Just bumping this thread. Any more experience of Effipro? Just got some from the vets - they said it was their version of Frontline. My dog is normally on Advocat and never has fleas but a friend who worked in a vets says vets were told to push Advocat because of the commission and that it doesn't protect against the most common worms,.
She recomends Frontline plus occasional worming.
    I'm all confused now. :(
Ever since my dog had a bad reaction with a Bob Martin product I'm worried about trying something new.

I have been using Effipro for over a year on all our cats and our dog and not had 1 flea (touching wood as I type). No reaction by any of them to it either.
  • I used Frontline spray, as the spot on treatments didn't work for me at all. i have a dog and 9 cats, so flea control is my upmost priority. After a while Frontline didn't work either and i had a mass infestation of fleas. I went to my vets and he gave me Eiffipro spray, It worked extremely well. Within a week most of the fleas on my pets had gone, and within 2 weeks, they were flea free. Yes it has a smell, which does stay on the animals for approximately 2 days, but then disappears.
I use it all the time now, as it is slightly cheaper, which is always a bonus, but purely because it is fantastic.
Frontline used to make my animals scratch all the time, and irritate there skin, to the point i had to pay for vet visits, to correct.
I have had none of that with Eiffipro.
I highly reccomend it, as it is very effective, i would never go back to frontline again

From a mother of 4 children, and a mum, of 1 dog, and 9 cats :)
