I've just rung the Times too and they said I had had the offer when I first subscribed so no joy with price matching - looks like it's the telegraph then (just wish they would change to tabloid size as my short arms start to ache with the broadsheet!!!!!!)
;) If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!

What happens if you are away during the subscription period? Can you ring them and ask for no vouchers for a particular week?
With The Telegraph you send back the vouchers for the weeks you don't want - and they refund the money.

Hi, I want to subscribe to the Times, but can anyone tell me how do the vouchers thing work? Will they be universally accepted? I mean, even small news agents would take them? I live far from the city centre, so have to buy the paper locally. Thanks!

I don't know about the Times, but I've had the Telegraph vouchers accepted everywhere, even at a little hospital shop, and Asda , Morrisons and Tesco. When I signed up, I asked about redemption and they said the only place they knew that didn't accept them was M&S

Yes can confirm M&S don't want one's business and refuse to accept newspaper coupons (in Bradford W Yorks anyway). Left all my shopping in protest at their un-customer-focus.

The only problem I've ever had was with Times coupons is that each coupon is individually dated and on the back it instructs retailer to present to their wholesaler within 7 days of acceptance and hence some small shops can play it strictly by the book and insist on the token being used on the right day for fear they won't get their £ back!

My local delivery newsagent (CoOp) never has a problem with them being handed in in a batch 4-8 weeks after date (they themselves are very slow at sending out delivery bills).

And when I have used elsewhere on holiday for instance, most retailers ignore the date just you CAN be caught out and it's a pain - I can remember having to try 4 different newsagents in East Cowes on Isle of Wight one weekend when I took the wrong weekend's coupon!

    No is the short answer.

They send out tokens in 1 or more consecutive batches - eg if you buy the Indy for 48 weeks you get 48 sheets of tokens (dated to be valid for about a 3wk period), with the Times you get a 13 week booklet quarterly (each token valid for a specific day's issue).

The way I work around this depends
    - leave them for my folks to claim papers when I am holiday
    - alternatively get n' weeks behind in handing them in to my delivery newsagent (CoOp) though in theory they could get sticky about this - a particular problem with dated Times ones.

Then when it's time to renew I ask them to begin the next set in n' weeks time so I can get back in synch.

From memory the Telegraph are similarly dated like the Times ones and delivered in batches of n' weeks at once so could have the same problem.

The Times are sneaky/cheeky in that they don't publish on Xmas Day and the token for 25/12 that you've paid for just says Happy Xmas!

For delivery, our local newsagent just credited the vouchers against the account and charged any papers delivered. When we were away, we just cancelled the papers, but they still credited the vouchers to our account.

How much is average to pay to get the papers delivered? Thanks!
