Just by way of a follow-up:

Just had the expected letter from the Times offering a lower rate (£2.50 pw).

Might take it up, but quite like the Guardian/Observer we get now. This also has the advantage of not putting any more money into Murdoch's well-lined pockets.

£1.50 pw would probably swing it, though - I'll wait for a bit to see if they bait the hook a bit more temptingly.
  • My mother has asked me if the Mirror offer subscriptions. Does anyone know?
  • I have just had an offer through the post of the FT for 4 weeks for £1. It does say it is a personal offer but i think it is postcode based and might be available to others.

    www.ft.com/trialoffer160

Or call 0800298 3852 and quote 'trial offer 160'

I have had vouchers from FT before and know that they scan at Asda self service checkouts and many shops do not know the difference between the Times and the FT. ;)

I had a Times Subscription which I started whilst at uni. I got it by complete chance. My mum had something through the post in 2001 which offered the whole week of the Times for a £1. I paid for a year. Then it went up the next year by 50p and I carried on. I had the subscription up until a few weeks back. By now they wanted £4 a week. Which is still a good offer bearing in mind the cost is 70p on weekdays, £1.40 on Saturday and £2 on a Sunday.

I called them and managed to haggle and get them to stay at £3.50 for the next years subscription but I thought I'd call the Telegraph as well as I fancied a change. Now I had a subscription to them as well back in 2002/3. However in 2003, they offered me a renewal of £2.65 a week and I didn't want to pay, so I didn't resubscribe. So I called the Telegraph a few weeks back. When they asked if I had previously had a subscription, I hesistated as I didn't know whether this would help or not. I said I did and gave the address I used to have the subscription sent to. Yes I was still on their records and here was the best bit.....they could give me a 1 year subscription still at £2.65 a week as that was what I was offered back when I used to subscribe! Brilliant! I jumped at the chance and my subscription started this week. Am very pleased with myself. (It is over £7 a week if you bought it normally)

As it happens, my folks have taken up my Times subscription (it was always in my mum's name)....at £3.50 a week.

I'm guessing I didn't get a lower price with the Times due to the fact that they are doing vaguely well in the circulations at present. And perhaps the Telegraph isn't hence why they let me subscribe at such a low rate.....and because they have got a reader back. It will be interesting to see what they offer me when it comes to renew. :rotfl:

I used to subscribe to the Telegraph until recently and want to re-subscribe. Do you have a phone number for subscriptions please.

Is that the price you were offered when you previously had a subscription?
