I am looking for a cheapish laptop, dont want to do anything clever or fancy on it.
Spotted this one in Argos:

and have managed to reserve one until tomorrow. I would be really grateful for some quick advice on it as I havent got long to make my mind up

I would say for the money Sony is a strong brand and the specs look rather good also, just to add if you look on the Argos link you supllied there is 92 customer reviews and looks to be on average 4.5 out of 5 so if you are prepared to believe the reviews it seems you cannot go far wrong being as tho its a very strong brand also...0 -
Just bought this one from Argos and very pleased with it!0

I am looking for a laptop for my daughter for college. She'll use it for college work, surfing the net and going on websites such as Youtube and Facebook. Would the one from Argos be suitable for this? Or would a notebook be any good? I'm not sure if she'll be able to use Microsoft Office on teh notebook?
She has around £350 to spend.0 -
I dont know much about these things, but she will certainly be able to use the Internet on this. The cheaper notebooks use Linux as an operating system, and my understanding is that this can be incompatible with Microsoft Ofice etc. I took the safe route! The cheapest I have found this laptop elsewhere is £460 on Amazon“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt.” Charles M Schulz0

Here's a tip: If you buy a 1GB RAM laptop today with the obligatory Vista on it, it will not exactly fly speedwise. When Windows 7 comes out, apparently there will be cheap upgrade path from Vista to 7.
The fact is that Win 7 is much, much more efficient and will run very nicely thankyou on a 1 GB lappy. So, buy bargain unpopular 1GB lappy today, wait patiently, install Windows 7.0 -

Linux is compatible with M$ office it uses openoffice in which you can save documents so M$ office can open them. Just a bit of a learning curve just like when you first used windows.0 -
Need a decent lappy for around £300... tried the refurb route with disastrous results!0
