It will be needed for internet usage at home and travelling, running microsoft office (mainly publisher) etc...

Any advice gratefully recieved as i dont want to buy the wrong thing.

ETA I like the lightscribe dvd writer and was thinking of buying an external one recently, so this would save me that.

Things I like:
- HDMI!!!
- Price
- Altec Lansing Speaker
- Screen type
- Decent Graphic card
- Video cam and mic built-in

I don't quite like:
- weight
- VISTA (pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee change to XP where possible)

Yah Kookai.. I noticed that too, but I'm into the power than mobility It's really good if I do lots of traveling but not my case.

Also only a single core processor which, in terms of future proofing, would be a fairly major negative IMO

Im looking for a cheap laptop for my dad, was looking at the previous posts and thought that the HP one from Staples was quite good.. but still see'ing if i can get anything cheaper haha!!

I've been considering it my self. Read lots of reviews and the things putting me off are apparently a battery life of only 89 minutes and no S-Video port.
