The Great 'Cheapest Decent Laptop' Hunt

I bought one of these the other week after much searching:

fujitsu siemens,
2gb dual core
3gb ram
£309 delivered
dont think you'll be able to find another laptop of that power from a reputable 'high street' brand for much less than that price. Its also quite thin and light. on the downside, it's quite basic to look at, but seeing as im the only one looking at it, who cares???0 -
Just bought this for my 14 yr old daughter's xmas - they're flying off ebuyer's shelves....
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/151240 £319 delivered (5 day saver!)
HP 6735s, 2Ghz AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor, 1 gig and 1 gig free RAM (not sure if both fitted or just the 1!), 15.4" WXGA, DVD+/-RW SuperMulti DL LightScribe Drive, 120Gig HD, Wireless and 52K Modem, Bluetooth, built in Webcam and Mic and has VISTA basic. Should have decent battery time but can't find exact specs for that, and its black which is good cos she's into EMO!:rotfl:Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.

Hubby & I have been reading magazines and websites trying to work out which is the best laptop for us considering our needs and budget but we are none the wiser. Can anyone shed any light as to what we should be looking for and what we should be staying well clear of?0

Hi,
Not very computer minded (just had to resubscribe to this website because I can't remember my original login or that for the e-mail account it was registered to) so hope I'm posting this in the right place.
Anyway I need a new DTR laptop. Has anyone seen any good deals on laptops with the following spec's:
17" decent monitor (lots of RAW photo processing)
3-4GB RAM
Dedicated graphics card with 256MB+ memory
2Ghz+ dual processor
HDMI output
(TV tuner and remote control would also be good but not essential)
But most importantly it's got to be a decent and thoroughly reliable model. I'm not good with computers so the less I have to worry about it the better.
I've found this HP reduced to £529 but there are some grumbles in the forums especially about its boot up time:

There is also an ASUS for about the same but I've been told they're a bit cheap and cheerful. The good news is that I have a budget of £600 though would much prefer to spend £500 or even less if I can. Thanks for your time. Zeb.0 -

Which is the best value for money or Bang for Buck?
there has been absolutely no price decrease even though these Discount Supermarkets were selling the same pcs 3 months ago and this supposed to be a serious recession hold off after Christmas?

Mine didn't:(. Made a few calls over the last few days and finally got an email today saying they were out of stock and to call their sales line (an 0844 number) so their advisors can help me choose an alternative product. Yeah, right:rolleyes:.
So it's back to haunting this thread and the hotdeals one and hopefully find something decent for under £300.0 -

In fact, it may well work to your advantage when you tell them how disapointed you are
