    Thank you Miss ;)

May I ask, what's the difference between a laptop and a notebook?

*I've no idea about technology* :o
A laptop and a notebook are the same thing, they started to discourage calling them laptops when the specs started to improve and as a result they produced more heat causing overheating for laptops and your lap if used just on your lap (they usually require some airflow to the underneath).

A netbook on the other hand is completely different - it's designed for just web browsing and word processing etc and are therefore smaller, lower spec, usually no hard drive (so no good for saving movies/music etc on) and no cd/dvd drive. Oh and they often have the Linux operating system instead of Windows to save on some of that small hard drive space and bring the price down (as you're not paying for Windows)

Thanks for the information, I must apologise for my previous post, I miss read the advice posted, I thought Miss had said “Notebook” rather than “Netbook”

The one issue I have with the links posted above by Miss, I'm not sure the screen size is big enough due to my OH eye sight, although for an extra £30.00 or so, I could have a notebook with Windows?

I think you've answered that particular query yourself then ;)
  • I'm happy with the £99 Elonex ONE which goes under a few different names. It currently doesn't support Flash heavy websites, such as Youtube. Not sure if that's important to you?

Thank you JD, When I first thought about buying a laptop I had no idea what I was looking for, at least with the help from the members on here I now have a better idea, I just need to find something within my price range ;)

  • I've just ordered one from Dell Outlet
If you want one with dedicated graphics you can add that in the search criteria.
I got a Inspiron 1535 (in Pink!) with a 256mb ATi Radeon card, dual core, 250gb hard drive and 2gb Ram for £373.00 delivered, which I thought was quite a bargain.
Well I can't stand by the side
And watch this life pass me by

    Just want to be...Happy
