Should I scrap my 11 year old Nissan for a new Hyundai i10?

Think you are a little high on projected value of new acr in 3 years time. But not a huge issue since you intend to run it until it dies.
I also think your repair estimates might be too low on the old one but you never know.
You're probably correct, alot of that is guesswork.:o
But if the i10 is worth £500 less and I've had to spend, say, £500 more on repairs they cancel each other out don't they?

i still cant believe that these nissans are rusting away at 10 years old forcing people to scrap them
this is bad0 -
I'm going with the i10 being worth 50% of what you pay for it 4 years from now - at best.
I'm including Almera 36mpg (had one, I know it's about right for my use anyway) and i10 56mpg. Not that this makes a huge difference on 4000 miles a year.
Using my spreadsheet spread over 4 years (if the Almera lasts that long) I see the i10 costing on average £73 a month more than the Almera. You do low miles and the Almera was free - as in zero depreciation. It's tough to make up for than with newer car lower running costs (ex. depreciation).
i10 = about £220 a month (10538 over 4 years)
Almera = £147 a month (7056 over 4 years)
Honestly I thought it would be a closer run thing than this, it's why you have to check each case.
I would try to think about how much longer that Almera will actually last and what it is worth to you to have the newer safer, easier to live with car (*probably* doesn't go wrong).
Thanks for checking that out for me. I'm surprised at the result though, i thought it would be closer..
We might well end up doing more miles a year if the mpg is better, at the moment we tend not to use the car for too many long journeys due to the cost of petrol for the trip e.g. in the summer we had a day out at an animal park, about an hour and 20 mins away from home. I filled up day before and topped up again on the way home, to see how much fuel we'd used - approx £13 worth! We have family that live about the same distance away that we don't visit that often due to cost of getting there and back.
Almera was free, but we could get £2000 for it now (
)
With 5 years warranty, I'd hope that meant no big repair bills (apart from normal wear & tear) for the first 5 years.
We'd probably aim to keep the i10 for at least about 10 years (assuming it was reliable).
I don't really know anything about cars (I expect you can tell
:D)
Thank you to everyone for your feedback/opinions, it's really helping me think through all the pros and cons. :T2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

The VAT is applicable on the day that you pay for the vehicle I believe, so if that date is in 2010, then I am fairly sure that the increased VAT would apply.
Somebody feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
Definitely worth checking out with the dealer! :eek:2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

No, no holes, which was also the problem with my last Corsa - I was quoted £700 to have rear headrests fitted! :eek:2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

i assume that was for a whole new intetior
£10 - £50 at a scrap yard would sort that problem out!0 -

Apparently it would need a whole new rear seat as it's something to do with steel tubes inside the seat

yup, they are what the headrests slide into
a new (second hand) seat back would be very cheap from a breakers, i found this out when replacing a seat from a rover that had the seatbelt built into the seat0 -

this is bad
I know someone with a P reg almera. 30K (!) on the clock and garaged EVERY night since it was bought. Had the sills welded last MOT and will need them doing again this time around. I had a MK2 Escort that was just as bad, except that was 20 years ago........0 -
I've just scrapped a 13yr old Fiesta for a i10 Comfort. Although the Fiesta had a fairly low mileage the bodywork was beginning to show signs of rust, had to have things done to pass the last couple of MOTs. My thinking was that to trade it in for a second hand car I was offered £200, nowhere near the £2000 it was worth as scrappage. I could have waited until it packed up which could have been in the next few months or 2 years, who knows. I'd have been pretty sick if it was just after the scrappage deal ended. I live in a rural area and didn't want to take the chance of breaking down in some dark caounry lane after dark so need a reliable car.
I find the i10 brilliant to drive, very roomy, more leg room for rear seat passingers, it must have better safety features than the old Fiesta, the boot is smaller but adaquate for what I need, have carried a 4'6" sideboard in the Fiesta, doubt I could do that in the i10 but that's not the sort of thing you do everyday. So all things considered I'm very pleased0
