went to look at the i10 yesterday cannot get one delivered before end of jan !!!!! no good if you are hoping to get one quite quickly

Under the Scrappage scheme, you have to have the car delivered within 4 months of placing the order.

My view is that the Almera is already starting to cost you largish sums of money, and that will only continue to escalate.

If you wait two years you won't have a scrappage scheme to take advantage of (although nothing to stop you buying a pre-reg or nearly new, of course.

Why not post your comparison figures up OP and then we can have a look at them and see if you've missed anything off.

Ok, here goes - I have done alot of 'Guess-timating' and made alot of assumptions.

    Option 1 - change now

Price of i10 Comfort, OTR with metallic paint & mudflaps is £6305 with scrappage discount.

    Cost over 3 years of Road tax (1st year free)(@£35) = £105
    Servicing (alternately £230 or £150) = £760
    Breakdown cover (£50? pa) 3 years (1st year free) = £150
    1 x MOT £50(?)

Total cost over first 4 years, £7370
But will have a 4 year old car worth ? £4500?

    Net 'cost' = £2870?

Option 2 - change in 4 years time (approx)

    4 years road tax (@£200) = £800
    4 years Servicing & MOTs (£200?pa) = £800
    Repairs - 4 x £200? (nothing ever seems to cost less than £200!) = £800
    4 years breakdown cover (£120?) = £480

    estimated 'cost' = £2880
Will have 15/16 year old car worth nothing, will need to spend £? to replace with 3 or 4 year old car?

Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end
    MFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07
    2021 £1250.00, 2022 £1500.00, 2023 £1500, 2024 £1350
    2025 target = £1200, YTD £9190

I have no idea what is causing it, but the bit I had to have welded is where the rear seat belt anchors to the frame.

By which time prices will have gone up due to the VAT increase.;)

Surely if you've ordered a car and agreed a price including VAT, they can't increase it?

Took hubby to see the i10 this afternoon (he liked it).
We both sat in the back and think it is fine for short/medium duration journeys, but will take daughter (and possibly parents) to see what they think, probably at the weekend. (I've warned the salesman that I'm not good at making decisions:o - he resisted the temptation to roll his eyes, probably only until we'd left! :rotfl:)

Bellrooster, you were correct, the servicing is not included, I'd got confused something he said about the 5 year mechanical warranty.
The servicing is actually more expensive than the service I get on my current car at a local garage, but I guess you'd expect that from a dealer.

    More thinking to do.........

Think you are a little high on projected value of new acr in 3 years time. But not a huge issue since you intend to run it until it dies.

I also think your repair estimates might be too low on the old one but you never know.

I'm going with the i10 being worth 50% of what you pay for it 4 years from now - at best.
I'm including Almera 36mpg (had one, I know it's about right for my use anyway) and i10 56mpg. Not that this makes a huge difference on 4000 miles a year.
Using my spreadsheet spread over 4 years (if the Almera lasts that long) I see the i10 costing on average £73 a month more than the Almera. You do low miles and the Almera was free - as in zero depreciation. It's tough to make up for than with newer car lower running costs (ex. depreciation).
    i10 = about £220 a month (10538 over 4 years)
    Almera = £147 a month (7056 over 4 years)
Honestly I thought it would be a closer run thing than this, it's why you have to check each case.
I would try to think about how much longer that Almera will actually last and what it is worth to you to have the newer safer, easier to live with car (*probably* doesn't go wrong).

I have just scrapped an R reg Almera 1.6GX on the advice of a mechanic I trust. 2 yrs ago I had to have that strut welded, last year I had the opposite one done and this year I would have needed the cross member under the engine welding plus large part of suspension replacing plus major work on breaks. He also muttered about my being on the original exhaust, clutch and other things I didn't understand.

I bought an i10 classic and love it. I can get 3 largish adults in the back for short/medium trips but wouldn't like to do it for a long trip. The boot is tiny. Insurance is costing £230 for me and 1 named driver.

When my kids learned to drive the insurance for them on Almera was very dear so we bought a T reg micra which rusted even worse than mine, so DS scapped it in June (again on the advice of mechanic) and bought an i10. Fuel usage is much less than Almera but I've not done a proper check on it yet. I do find the wipers irritating and would advise a comfort. HTH

The VAT is applicable on the day that you pay for the vehicle I believe, so if that date is in 2010, then I am fairly sure that the increased VAT would apply.

Somebody feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
