    Probobly.....

and your signature really should be
"there - adverb; their - possessive; they're - abbreviation or contraction"
as you have an odd mix at the moment, of usage and definitions, and not covering the full usage of "there", eg, there are several mistakes above.

Sorry, nothing against anyone, just felt like joining in with a pun and passing comment rolled into one.

    You are 100% correct.

However.....the problem with using your explanation/definition is that if someone can understand what you mean then they wouldn't need help in the first place, would they?....:D

I think the way you've put it is perfect BFG! I taught literacy to adults for a while and that is how I always explain it too. :A

The nursery are in the wrong they cut the toddlers hair then lie about it, surely they have a contact number where they could have rung the parents and explained the situation before doing something so drastic with what should be child friendly paint

Or as some of you think it is ok what they done do you reckon many parents would have there children in the nursery if it said in the contract for the nursery oh if your child has paint in there hair we can just chop that bit out because i no i wouldnt send my child to a nursery if thats there policy, they are nursery teachers not hairdressers

If they feel they can do that and lie about it makes you wonder what else they feel they have the right to do and lie about

Hope they are held accountable for their unacceptable behaviour

That's the difference in how perception between different people work then, you assumed it would help people understand, I assumed it was an over simplistic explanation based on a flawed partial definition. You could change "possessive" to "belonging to them" to match your style of writing in your signature, unless you prefer the odd mix you have at present.

When people don't understand something it's better to use simple explanations mikey and I think BFG's sig was directed towards people who don't understand the differences so use the wrong words. Can't see the point of using any other sort of explanation in that case, simple explanation does the job.

Fair enough, that's why "possessive" sticks out like a sore thumb, in an otherwise simplistic explanation. As you taught literacy, would it be an explanation you would have used, or would you have quoted usage, as the others are.

They'd probably bring back corporal punishment to 'toughen them up a bit'.

    Never did me any harm.............:D

Was thrashed on a regular basis, both tawse and cane beat the hell out of detention. Always took the thrashing if offered the choice.
  • Who even cares?

Toddlers get all sorts of stuff *everywhere* and need to be cleaned up on a regular basis, so they trimmed her hair a bit, does it matter?

    No.

Why wouldn't you care? I don't understand anyone who would pick up their child from nursery with a badly done, not permitted, hair cut, to not care. To not be bothered that the staff first tell you that they didn't do it, and then to be told that they did it cause they couldn't think of anything better than doing so, when there were many other options.

And in answer to your question, which you answered yourself; does it matter? Yes, clearly it does. Most people have said it does, and the fact that the police are involved shows that it does.

I'm now annoying myself by replying to you, as I can clearly see you're out to wind people up and not to offer advice, and I should know better.
