I went to one of the tescos local to me yesterday and its policy I was told by the check out operator was up to 50% off the total shopping bill.
  • I feel lucky as my local tesco normally take what ever i hand in, even if the are internet printed. one person will except max of 3 coupons but at £1+ coupons at the moment it still takes a lovely chunk away from the total

i feel as long as people dont over do it with the coupons they wont stop taking them. i cant remember the last time i had to pay full price for my shopping. i wish i had found out about coupons years ago!!!!!!
  • Apparently it has been my asda store policy from the beginning of this week.

i have just sent an email to asda asking if this is the Official Asda Policy. am awaiting their reply.

got my fingers crossed that it might make my store do a U turn. :o

i have received an email from Asda saying that they accept coupons for up to 10% off shopping bill. :o

looks like a trip to Asda is back on the cards for me. :D

Does anyone know if Teco will accept Somerfields coupons? Its just that in this months Somerfield magazine there are several nice coupons off of alcohol. I'm never sure what coupons are allowed at Tesco. The other day when i went in and used the self service till the Lady who was there to help came over as soon as she saw that i had coupons and said she had to check what i was putting in.

From my lurking on this thread I believe the supermarkets (possibly with the exception of Waitrose) don't accept the others' vouchers but I'd be happy to be wrong if anyone knows better

They will scan at Tesco - and my view in law (and I have studied it a bit to degree level) if there is an offer (a voucher) and an acceptance (Tesco's till) then a transaction is valid. However in the real world Tesco can't claim the money back on these coupons and although some supermarkets don't seem to mind accepting them (if there is competition many accept others) there are those who don't want them.

I have used them in my Tesco - self scan (and nice it was too) but it soon p**d the manager off and I got a good talking too.................needless to say he was quite happy to receive the other coupons and told me so. I haven't used Somerfields vouchers since, not because I think it is illegal but because he could ban me.So the moral of the story is - if you want to annoy your local supermarket use them - if not don't!!!

First time I ever used a Somerfield mag coupon anywhere other than Somerfield, was Asda. Coupon fell out of my purse whilst I was rummaging about for right coupon. SA picked it up, and I said, "Oh sorry, thats not the right one". She said , "It's ok, we take these" !!!!
Next week I offered one at Tesco, who also accepted it quite willingly. Had a couple of good months, but then suddenly in June both Tesco and Asda seemed to clamp down on ALL coupons.
Asda was so picky, they refused a mag coupon for £1.40 when my shop total was £13.50 odd saying could only take 10%
Now this week having a really good run. Asked SA at Tesco if she accepted these....and offered one of the Sainsbury ones from their mag, she said "Lets see shall we.." it scanned and she held out her hand for more :T
Ended up with over £9 off a shop that had been only £20 odd. Still got a wallet full, but don't like to push my luck, esp after having a very lean spell.
Always try to have the attitude that if they are accepted its a bonus, if not, well try again another day. Also keep a friendly attitude to sa even if coupons refused. After all, they are only doing their job, and sticking to T&C of coupons....and next week store policy could change, so no need to shoot yourself in the foot so to speak with staff, who may reject them next time simply cos they remember you as being a miserable g*t to them
Still feel slightly gutted when I have to throw coupons away which have gone by their date - feels like I'm throwing cash away.:p

my supermarket is great with accepting any multiples of money off vouchers.....but i never use another store's vouchers in the supermarket, as at least they can claim the products voucher value back.....and i personally feel that i would be taking the p a bit by giving some other supermarkets vouchers....and that could be fodder for them to stop excepting vouchers all together, to stop these ones getting through their tills..... but this is just my personal view......even though their till might accept them......:rotfl:

i agree with oldbag. I offer them if they are refused I just try again next time and as often as not next time they are all ecepted. Not sure who it is best to get to serve you I've had them refused by teenage lads and accepted by middle aged ladies.

Agree with idea, be very nice to SA, engage the in conversation and hope for the best. My Asda takes well over the 10% rule most of the time. Went shopping this week and FORGOT MY COUPONS, what a disaster. The trouble is that if you build up too many you can't use them and, as a previous post says, you feel you are throwing money away (but i know your not really!)
