Even where they have a set policy at branch level, the staff can be funny about it!
For once I had OH with me today as it was his day off. Went for lunch and parked in Tesco car park as it's free, but had to spend a fiver to validate our exit ticket from the car park.
OH picked up a pack of socks at £5 and I picked up some choccy biscuits and milk. As we were in a store which only accepts one coupon per transaction, we split this small amount of shopping and I got OH to hand over a £1 off nappies coupon for his socks. Middle-aged lady on the till scowled but rang it through.
Then I did my separate transaction for the princely sum of £1.70 and also handed over a £1 off nappies coupon. Even bigger scowl, then she said 'that's a bit cheeky, you've just used one'. '
No, my husband did for his shopping, but this is a separate transaction' I smiled. She then said 'I bet you don't even have any children'!!
I stayed calm, told her we have four children (indeed over the years we have spent a fortune on nappies!), and said 'it should be OK as I am allowed to give you one coupon per transaction aren't I?'
She slammed down my change, I left laughing at her cheek! What a fuss about one coupon, it's their own fault in that store as they are almost ALL miserable.
This grumpiness and their silly policy means that I deliberately only ever buy a few pounds-worth of bits there as a top-up. It's their loss as I spend a fortune at the bigger, friendlier, coupon-accepting store a few miles away!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I was lucky today, was served by a middle-aged lady at Tesco who didn't bat an eyelid at my 5 vouchers (for a small shop)0 -
I went to my local Tescos a couple of days ago and my regular lady who would scan anything would only accept one voucher on my shop. They have had orders from above. Maybe it is due to my complaint in which case I have spoilt it for myself but on the other hand in a couple of months, they will be back to normal. Still no letter from the chairman of Tescos but I anticipate it will be here shortly.
I went to my new regular Tescos and delighted in the huge amount of stock they hold and the fact they sell pillows and clothes !!!! Split my shop into 2 had lots of whiskas vouchers so got £18.00 of cat food and goodies using my whiskas vouchers and 1 huggies voucher and only paid £2.95. For once I had actually bought the items on the vouchers.
Then did my main shop - (after a successful car boot in the morning in the baking welsh sunshine), unfortunately half way around I felt dizzy (sun stroke) and a member of staff got me a cold drink and a chair. Anyway finished shopping and had £14 off on a £100 shop. It was nice to be in a large Tesco store and not feel I was being watched, followed or clocked.
Incidentally, at the car boot sale I was selling some unwanted money off vouchers and they sold much better than if I had put them on ebay. The buyers all knew that they could use them without buying the items.

Armed with a lot of inspiration from this thread and a fistful of pampers and huggies vouchers plus others, I shopped at a fairly large Tescos last week. I handed the vouchers over to the middle aged male check out operator who initially said: oh but you haven't bought any nappies. I smiled sweetly and said: yes, but I think they will still scan do you mind trying?
£16 off a £26 shop later (all but the tesco ones scanned as I hadn't bought enough organic veg) the man commented that I'd done alright there and the rest of the queue looked on slightly amused - as I left feeling very pleased with myself!0 -
Well done rozeepozee!
Now you'll be like the rest of us and forever looking for other coupons in magazines, newspapers etc. Oh, and signing up for obscure websites which send you coupons for 15p off diarrhoea medicine (and then email info to you every week)....:DPRIVATE 'PCN'? I usually use the ss tills and try to do two smaller shops, and usually save just over £10 a week.
My grocery bill is usually between £50-£60 after discounts.
I love coupons:jAmazon Sellers Club Member Number 52

I'm doing really well thanks to all the tips I've learned here. Always split my shop into 2 now to get 3 x coupons for each shop & sometimes can bung in an extra 1 if it's a cheery lad on the till!
Was getting in a muddle with dog-eared coupons in the bottom of my bag so have got a cheap plastic folder thingy from Woolies (A5 concertina-style with elastic round it) & have done little month end expiry date tabs. Keep it in car so always there when I go to Tesco - it has really helped me, so easy to see which need using 1st - hate throwing unused coups away! :-)0 -

Glad it's not just me who sorts coupons out in to date order. My oh thinks I'm mad. Every Sunday night I sort them into date order and then put a weeks worth in my bag0 -

Me too of course! I spent a happy couple of hours yesterday sorting through everything, as I have realised I have loads which expire end of August. Sounds like ages to go, but in fact there's only about 7 weeks to use them and they are mostly 20p off ones. Sometimes I leave them too long in favour of the bigger value ones (check out the Daily Mail page 53 today for a lovely £1.40 coupon - see newspaper coupon summary on this site).
I also hate throwing away out of date ones! It pains me, it's like chucking money in the bin!:DPRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
